mic2 select!

my problem is simple, when i switch servers on battlefield 2 or special forces, the game changes my microphone settings and i have to alt tab to revert them. the game checks "mic2 select" in volume controls. is there any way i can tell the game not to do this or is there a way to uncheck it while ingame? i have an asus a7v8x-x motherboard with onboard soundmax audio. i tried asking ea support but they just told me to delete my profile in my documents and set hardware acceleration to basic for audio in dxdiag, which shouldnt and didnt work/apply to the real problem. it seems that im not the only one with this problem:

I had the same problem man. I have an audigy 2 zs platnium (w/ the front panel box) and I always used the mic2 input that was in the front so I didn't have to get under my computer to change it. I use the headphones input on the front panel and the mic1 input on the soundcard cause it is the only way I could get it to stop changing my settings. Nothing worse then playing for like 30 min with your friends wondering why they are ignoring you just to find out that you have the wrong mic selected. Well, write back if you have a audigy 2 zs and I may be able to help you.

i dont have an audigy, i have onboard. but if what you say is true, changing my mic select from 2 to 1 may fix my problem. only problem is that i plug my mic into the back. anyone know how i would go about changing my mic2 to mic1 in windows?

It is cleared documented that BF2 ONLY supports primary mic input.

It shouldn't be that way..and I hope they fix it in the future.

Uhh, Talus I think you may not be correct. I was able to use mic1 and mic2 while in bf2. It is just when i used mic2 SOMETIMES it would switch to mic1. Point being, you are able to use either one, but it seems that it does preferentially choose mic1.

BF2 doesn't SUPPORT alternative mic inputs...that doesn't mean they won't work

I use a USB mic and it works just fine. Audigy users with alternative inputs HAVE been able to find workarounds...but they are not supported.

Hehehe, quick response. Yeah, I should have been more clear. You sir are correct, it doesn't support alternative mics, but there are ways around it. Sorry to have ever doubted you.

Hehe..that's not what I meant

But...if you CAN get your mic working by using the primary input (i.e. the simplest solution), then that is what I recommend people do.

For any other solutions, you're in for a bit of work and forum searching.

I had an older SB Live! Platinum and tried to use the front mic-2 input for a while. Like you, I had to alt-tab out and switch from mic-2 to mic-1 all the time. I never did find a way around it. It doesn't really matter, though, as I removed the SB card and am now using my motherboards onboard audio (which sucks).

thanx for all the responces, i tried searching the net and still have no idea how to make my drivers think that they are mic1 rather than mic2 (even though my mic is plugged into the back)

disabling boost gain ingame fixed this problem for me
