Ive had this problem forever and nobody had ever been able to help me with it not even a professional tech person that didnt fix **** but still took my money. Ill be on my computer, not even doing anything graphically stressing, just idling at the desktop some times and my computer will restart randomly. Not the safe little windows restart it completely shuts off then comes back on again. Ive lost my term paper three fuking times because of this sh1t and I realy need some help now. After it restarts it gives a Windows error report dialog that tells me redundantly "Windows has encountered an error". Hey, no ****! I send the error report to them and its never a constant error. I just got a RAM related error, and the last time it happened it was a device driver's fault. Not only these problems but programs that should work perfectly randomly crash for no reason. Like Firefox, Launcpad for SWG, F.E.A.R., Notepad...etc. I payed $3,000 for the comp and I dont feel like losing out on good gaming because Bill Gates cant get his **** together.

I am prof. computer eng. and I can help you. The problem with your issue is that just about anything in a computer can cause a hard reboot like that. The first thing I would address (although I don't believe it is your problem) is heat. Do you know what temp. your CPU is at during crash? It could be heat, RAM, Processor, system board, power supply, video card or other random short.
What brand is this computer? If it is clone then what are the specs? What model system board, what model video card, Intel or AMD? etc. How old is the system? Did you make any changes at all the coincide with this problem?

There are some tests you can run to narrow the problem down. First, find Memtest86 (86 right?) and that will let you know if it's a memory problem, which it probably isn't. Plus, you can d/l and run Prime95 which stresses your cpu to no end. But it really sounds like a heat issue. How many case fans do you have and do you know what size they are? One other thing it could be is your PSU is having problems. You need to run each one of those tests for about 12 hours straight. So that means you can't do anything with your computer for about a day. Sucks, but it's one of the only ways to see what's wrong.Comment

rymaples says its the only way but that's not really true. Before you waste a day tell me about your heat. What is the heat when dormant and then the heat when playing a graphics intense game. The fact that you said it reboots in so many different scenarios makes it sound like something else.

While playing BF2 it stays at about 29C and Ive never seen it go over 30c I have 2 80mm case fans I know i need more cooling.Comment

it says unkown device driver, have you installed drivers without uninstalling the old ones? i had this happen to me once, and i used driver cleaner to do a fresh install for my GC.Comment

what is the power output of your psu? i have a 450w, which is really the min you should have really, if you have a 350w then i would consider getting an upgrade? also heat sounds a pretty fair assumption.Comment
