I'm confused, please help.

Well for Christmas i received BF2. I proceed to install it, and I first notice its taking forever to install, running extremely slow. Once im about 99% done with the full installation (past the gamespy install) it crashes, i get a blue screen, and it restarts. Next when i boot it up and try to install the 1.12 patch, the error I get is "Can't find install folder for Battlefield 2."

Also i tried including my DxDiag, but it said its too big.

Please help me, i have a christmas present i cant even use

512 ram, windows xp, 1.4 Ghz, AMD athalon, Radeon 9700 pro. Is that it ?

You are slacking on RAM, 1GB is minimum, and your cpu is pretty slow. No offense. This game takes a lot to just run.

If you've never completely installed BF2 then it won't work. 99% isn't enough, you need all 100%.

i cant uninstall it either, i get an error there too. this is turning out to be a nightmare.

Just delete the EA folder C:/program files/EA , then try to reinstall.

I have to agree with the other poster; BF2 takes a lot to run and its a massive system hog. With the specifications you posted (esp the RAM) I think you're going to find it to be a major struggle.

Once again we encounter false advice, just like you people telling these poor kids with PCI slots they can't nor will they eveer run the game, BS! You can run the game with 512MB of RAM, you will encounter lag, this is a given, but its doable. And the CPU definately isn't the best, but if you keep your running processes to a minimum I think you will be ok. REmove/delete folders or files from the failed installation and restart the process. Over all I've probably reinstalled 4 times because half the time the disc would quit reading or so on. That was when I had less RAM as well too though.

Since you will be ingame with only 512, you need to go to start-run-msconfig and disable anything not critical from starting itself up when you boot your system. And your also going to need to be consistent with keeping your BF2 cache folder clean. In conclusion, getting up to atleast a Gig of RAM is your best bet.

Well i got it reinstalled, patched, and played for about an hour or so. After playing for this hour or so my comp crashed, went to blue screen without any words, then restarted. Is this over heating ? Even though Im running 7 fans ?

tbh, i think your processor speed is too slow. i think to be safe you'd need a 2.0 ghz atleast, maybe this is the reason for you crashes?

Jones[31stMEU], if you have an awfully slow computer, it's going to take forever to install the patch. With my system, it takes a few minutes and I have a top of the line computer. If you have a slow computer, it's going to take forever to install the game and patch. The minimum specs required is a joke.

If you don't know anything, don't try it. Your computer is pretty old, you could just save up for a new one.
What are you still having problems with?
