my question is, when you get SF can you use the 6 new kits in the old maps (ie: karkand, gulf, wake, etc.) and then is there 6 more unlocks available, which would make 4 kits for each type of soldier. is this how it works?

If I've understood your question correctly, in SF there are the normal classes but each class has a different default weapon and things like zip lines/grapple hooks. The weapons (not the zip lines and grapple hooks) can then be unlocked through playing either SF of vanilla BF2 and used on the old maps. There isn't a 2nd set of unlocks available to SF players, it's the SF default weapons which can be unlocked for use in ordinary BF2.
