Multiplayer Lag Only

Been dealing with this for months. My game is beautiful and runs awesome in Single player or if I create a LAN server. If I join a server, I get lag which turns in to choppy movement, stuttering, and also being dropped from the server. What I have noticed is that my harddrive is crunching extremely hard when it ends up lagging bad. Also I will join servers sometimes and it will say disconnection lost right as Im joining.. and is taking a long time to connect (2-4 minutes)

AMd64 3000+ winchester
1gb ocz plat rev2
geforce 7800 GTX
Maxtor 300GB 16mb cache SATA150

On some servers it will be worse than others

EA Support is wack and they havent got a clue.. just tell me to keep reinstalled direct X or my video drivers.. idiots..

Make asbolutely sure that no other applications are taking bandwidth away from you, no matter how minute. Check stuff like antivirus and windows updates.

Is Punkbuster up to date?

Im a network admin so I am fairly knowledgable about PC's

Disabled everything 3rd party from startup and system services, down to just 22 items. No difference.

I play many other online games (steam, cod2, utk24) never any lag issues..

My ping is solid in BF2 as 20-30ms, but it has nothing to do with ping latency.

No firewall, no antivirus - tried with and without my Linksys router and no difference.

Punkbuster is up to date @ version 1.219 | A1361

I opened task manager on a 2nd monitor to watch performance..

BF2 redlines my CPU nonstop. Is this normal? It never drops below 98% and of course uses 700 MB of ram or more.

When I connection time out/loss, my taskmgr stats arent moving either. They seem frozen for a few seconds, then it resumes, and I lose connection

while ingame, ranked pb server bring console down. type(without quotes)"pb_sleep 500", than type "pb_writecfg"
the first one tells pb to check your game for hacks/problems etc.. every 500 secs instead of 20. the second is so that you dont have to re-type it again at the start of every game. could that b it? i dunno man, just trying to help

open your ports on your router thingy... choose your model, than battlefield 2 and follow the instructions
