can't install SF because of 'patching failed'

I have just bought SF but I can't install it because when it wants to install the 1.1 patch it's patching failed.

I had the 'patching failed' problem with all of the bf2 patches but I patched them manually. Now I can't skip the patching during the installation and after patching failed the wizard exits. So I can't install SF.

    HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: can't install SF because of 'patching failed'

I got exactly the same problem. Put BF2:SF DVD in, give the key -> it wants to patch to 1.1 (you can not skip this) and then says patching failed and closes the installer.

no slightest idea what to do

Re: can't install SF because of 'patching failed'

      problem solved.

It appears that the patches don't like certain type of profile names in windows... on my case there was some scandic letters: รครถ

fix: created a new profile to windows, used only letters that are in english. Installer worked, got the game.

      and now... I'll go play

Re: can't install SF because of 'patching failed'

I entered the game, tried to join a game and it suggest me to buy real BF2:SF because my CD-key is supposedly invalid...(which it oddly enought accepted while I was installing..)

I must say, quality with finishing a game and making them compatible has gone way down in few years

Re: can't install SF because of 'patching failed'

Try this. Open the Cd using explore r > Goto the Patches folder > Patch.exe.

If that doesn't work, try this:

If you get the "patching failed" message while applying the patch we've found that in many cases it's caused by a single issue.

Following tests here at EAUK this morning the issue in many cases seems to be caused by the installation directory chosen.

If you chose a custom directory during initial installation and added a trailing slash to the link (for example E:\EA Games\Battlefield2\) the patch will not install correctly. If you installed to the same place without the trailing slash (E:\EA Games\Battlefield2) you should not have any problems.

To fix the problem with your installation you can either reinstall (which is the easier solution) or edit the following registry entries :

                In:
                [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}]

The InstallLocation field’s data of : X:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2" must not have a backslash at the end.

As is the same for InstallDir field in:
                [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2]

That's a very poor show on DICE's part then (The foreign characters in windows profiled)
