    \windows\system32\config\system....missing or corrupt! help plz!

    This morning when I started my comp it appeared this message :

    "\windows\system32\config\system....missing or corrupt! You can attempt to repair it by inserting your XP cd...."

    I tried to insert my cd and reboot but I still appear me this message and I tried everything It just blocked at this annoying message.

    I can even enter the XP cd setup screen.

    plz help
    any suggestion will be appreciated

    I feel with you. I have had that 3 times in my life and at that point there is mainly no way back, just reformat. One time I was very lucky and I had a system.bak file in the same folder. But the other 2 times that bak wasn't recent enough to solve it.

    Perhaps you can try repairing it, I failed in doing that. It's just a terrible file corrupting and mainly means the death of the OS.

    You can download a Knoppix Live CD and use it to burn a backup of your files.

      Go into recovery console and replace the file with the one on your XP disk.

        Can you use the System Restore function?

        Start->Accessories->System tools->System Restore

        Otherwise, you're going to have to do the above Recovery method.

          yea I finally got into the XP setup screen via BIOS but anyway Ill receive my new vid card tomorrow so Ill format my comp tomorrow after installing the new vid card

          anyway I'll just format my XP C: disk, all my are on the D: disk , so ill be able to backup them after refomating XP
