DICE implemented X-FI support before the card was even out, yet no wide-screen support. Seems logical. :shakehead

Do you really think it's fair that someone can have a better graphics card, hence more detail?

Do you really think it's fair that someone can have a better connection, hence less lag?

Do you really think it's fair that if you have a 4:3 monitor and I have a 16:9, YOU currently have a screen visibility advantage over me?

Do you really think it's fair that someone can have a great set of headphones and therefore hear me coming sooner?

Do you reallly think it's fair that someone can have a 40" screen giving them a larger area to aim at?

Do you really think it's fair that someone can own an 1800dpi laser mouse while others own a 2 button ball mouse?

This is PC gaming, if everyone had the same kit it would be no better than a console. I have a 40" widescreen panel worth £2,500, i've paid (well i won, but whatever) for an advantage, just the same as the guy who buys a £350 graphics card and £70 laser mouse when he comes up against me with my raddy 9800 and basic Microsoft mouse.

This is the 21st century not 1985, game devs need to be supporting widescreen resolutions.

C'mon Dice get on this already!

I need 1680x1050. I'm sick of playing 1360x1024 with black bars.

Re: Sign here for true widescreen support.

BF2 won't ever have wide-screen support. Not because EA/Dice is not willing to do it but because the engine is too tied to 4:3. Also all 2D vehicle overlays are only for 4:3.

I am sure you all know this already but to start BF2 in wide you just add the shortcut-options (+szx 1680 +szy 1050) and you have clipped wide. The width is same but top/bottom is clipped. Some of the 2D-overlays are stretched but 3D is in correct ratio. The clipping don't actually bother much since there is rarely any information in those areas.

To get true wide you would need to change fov from 1.1 to 1.2 or even 1.3. This is not possible without hacking the FOV directly. But with that some the 2D-vehicle overlays are "ugly" because of the missing areas in left/right sides due to wider screen. But it's only for vehicles that doesn't allow no cockpit-view. (I.e. APC, Tank).

Kingskin, already sounds like a flame in progress doesnt it, I unfortunately like most everyone else who plays BF2 would complain, but probably rush right out and buy whatever I needed to stay current with everyone else in the game. I have already been looking to see what is available and what kind of price I can expect to pay (I wish I could win one but with my luck, I think I can swing about 7 or 8 hundred bucks). I was hopeing someone would answer me with "If you saw my (insert brand name here) you would have to have one" or " Ha Ha Ha you dont have a (brand name) widescreen ". I am seriously leaning toward a 27 inch LCD TV because the newer ones can handle the resolution and I want something bigger than my 19 inch CRT. Oh and I never intended to flame you it was a teaser to get this post read. Thanks. . . . .Red

Proper widescreen-support for BF2 or I'll pee on Dice.
Or on EA. Or on those EA/Dice workers who don't like to pee'd on... because some people do like that kind of err...

I didnt think you were flaming, it's a point i've heard before a few times, but differing systems are a part of PC gaming, and you get what you pay for. At the moment the only way to play in widescreen is to crop the top and bottom of the picture or have black bars, not ideal :)
