    BF2: War Simulation?

I've seen a few people on these forums referring to BF2 as a "War Simulation". While BF2 is only a game so there is no staggering amount of realism like a real simulation. There are many elements which make it "realistic" such as the sounds(especially this), graphics, vehicles, weapons, locations etc. All of these elements combine to create a game that really immerses you and makes you feel as if you are part of a real war, provided you have adequate hardware.

My question to you is, Given the circumstances of the BF2 story: Do you think the events and gameplay of BF2 are an accurate depiction of real warfare? Or does it atleast come somewhat close? Opionions especially welcome from those that have or are serving our country.

Not all sims are games; not all games are sims.

Oh and there is no spoon.

We still have a long way to go before we see a nice holodeck sim.

I'd like to see a breakthrough in the peripheral vision department. Close quarters combat in particular is a bit silly in any game because of this. But this is really a hardware issue. Someone buy me 2 more monitors? We could just pretend everyone is wearing a gasmask, thus no peripheral vision to explain the current state of FPS games. All I can really say for sure is America's Army is more sim than bf2. Dropping your rifle when your nose is against a wall is a very nice touch.

I don't care where it rates on the sim scale. I just play for fun and enjoy it. And will be enjoying it so much more when bunnyhoppers are nerfed into the ground muahahaha! I do get off on the more sim aspects like the PRMM.

Not even close. It looks nice, and sounds great but no, it isn't even a hint of real war.

Battlefield 2 is only realistic in its aesthetic. Sadly, some people confuse this to mean that it is supposed to be realistic in gameplay as well.

Not having been in a war, I can't say for sure, but I'm sure enough that almost nothing in-game depicts how an actual war or battle unfolds.
