    Thinking about getting SF...but.....

I heard it sucks, flat out, but I'm tired of having to compete against all these new weapons in normal bf2. SO.....what are the unlocks, exactly?

I got a $15 gift card to best buy for Christmas, so I figured I could cut the SF price in half by using it.

I don't plan on playing any of the SF maps or anything, just strictly to get access to the new stuff for BF2. What new weapons are available for each class? ESPECIALLY for medic and spec ops. How are they? How do they fire? Accuracy? etc...

Overall, I'm debating whether or not I should shell out the money for the unlocks.

Also, is there ANYWAY to get the SF unlocks without buying SF? I heard that if someone who has SF logs into your account and plays it a bit, that they can unlock the new weapons for you, and then you login and have the weapons.

Yes, that's why a couple thousand of us play it several hours a day, every day.

It sucks? Says who? And why wouldn't you want to play the new maps? Once you play Warlord and Ghost Town you'll be hooked. Or get in a good game on Iron Gator. The battles below deck in the hanger bay can get pretty intense. I admit the night map take a little getting used to, but they are good too. I went to best buy to get it and they were all out. I'm sure they've got it now though. I used the EA downloader and once I was able to log in, it worked pretty good.

Don't buy it if you want it only for the weapons

I'm glad that I bought the expansion. I bought it for the weapons cause I got tired of playing with the same old weapons. I love the maps also. But I have a hard time finding low ping servers with a lot of people playing on them.

Well all I hear is how overpowered they are, and that's from SF users. I also heard that it just feels more like new models and weapons and that's it...other than a true $30 worthy expansion...ie no new gameplay action, etc...

The people who say the weapons are too over powering don't know anything. The Navy Seals weapons are weak as an old man pokin you with a stick. Yes, it does some what feel like somethings just got new skins, but the maps are all great. The Nightvision works out good too. But the best part IMO is the grappeling hook and zip line. I makes it MUCH more fun to be on foot and no longer do you have to take a one way road to get to places. I tried to go back to normal BF2 and I missed my grappeling hook so much that i thought i was going through withdrawl...

one thing i hate about iron gator... once i get to the first floor, it's so hard telling where's the enemy on my minimap. and the amount of processing my computer has to do for all the insane amounts of texture. iron gator = lag for me. ugh.

I know what you mean... It also doesn't help that everyone is in the same spot... That map is the only bad one out of the bunch.

No new gameplay? Whoever said that was just ****ed they didn't have $30 to buy the expansion.

I've found the SF battlefields to be much more dynamic than anything in vanilla. With the zips and grapples, guys can come at you from 100 different directions at any time. The battlefield is much more three dimensional now than it ever was.

                      YES, this is spot on...

                      My SF tips..
                      1. Buy SF
                      2. Play it for 2 weeks
                      3. then try play vBF2.... just not as up-tempo as SF
going back to BF2 is hard... i find it too slow now... running or driving miles (on some maps) for 1 kill,... nahh gimmee SF and 15 kills around every corner

Aighty, I'll try it out, I suppose.

Now, for the other question, what are the new unlocks? Especially Medic and Spec Ops?

I have all but two unlocks (soon to unlock another) on vanilla bf2.

Is the new medic/spec ops weapons worth using?

                        IE

                        BF2 medic unlock
Single and automatic. Scoped. Medium accuracy at range. Medium damage. Fast RoF

                        BF2 SpecOps unlock
Single and automatic. Minor zoom in. High accuracy at range. High damage. Fast RoF

It's an opinion really, some people like it, some don't. I bought it because I am a Battlefield fan (since Battlefield 1942 Tobruk Demo). Personally I prefer Battlefield 2 vanilla over Special Forces, though it's sometimes pretty nice to play some SF, it's good fun.

So the only real difference is, the new one, you get a higher RoF at the cost of less zoom and stuck with burst shots? Doesn't sound too great. I wish I could test the new weapons out before deciding :/

My $.02 - it was worth the purchase. Plain and simple - I am happy I bought it - I have a blast playing in regular BF2 with my unlocks, and I have even more fun playing in SF with the new maps, armies, and kits.
