    Key Default Issues

    Okay .... I hear all the time how something about the default keyboard setting of BF2 (ex. W=forward movement S = Backward etc) is annoying but I cant decide for myself how exactly to set mine up.

    What would really help is if I could hear what changes some of you have made however big or small. My Main Hassels are :

    Jump = Spacebar
    Chute = 9
    Prone = Z
    Sprint = shift ( awkward with pinky on shift and thumb on Z )
    Switch weap = 1,2,3,4 (I would perfer not to remove my fingers from A,W,D but if I must move them ...atleast keep one finger one W)

    So just post anything you changed and It'd really help, TH><

    Ok here you go:

    ESDF (for my movement)
    A is crouch
    C is Prone
    Z changes mini map size
    Space Jumps
    Left mouse fire / Right mouse Alt Fire
    R reload
    T brings up my map
    W is Parachue
    Q Enters Vehicles
    G Picks up kits
    V is my quickchat bind
    U is global chat
    Y is team chat
    FOR SF
    X is my gas mask
    mouse 3 is my Night Vision

    And my Ventrilo/TS2 bind is Mouse 4

    There are various others, but those are the main ones

    Oh and I really do recommend going from WASD to ESDF you get so many more keys around your one hand that you can work with.

      Sweet dude ... this really sounds helpful ... I may even use this exact setup with Q as shoot and W as enter vehicle though. Very nice especially with this, the fingers dont feel so awkward ... I mean I love BF2 and all ... but its not worth havin carpol tunnel by age 18

      Probably the best part of your setup ... It doesnt give you the feeling of being crammed to the left side of the keyboard and has many more key placement options around it.

      Still one prob though ... the 1,2,3,4 keys are still very awkward :hmm: I will have to try and maybe spread them around a bit

        I've been using ESDF for about 6 years now for about every FPS and have yet to find a situaion where it wasn't better then WASD.

        WASD is just too far to the left, crunching yoru hand to the edge of the keyboard and making it difficult to reach keys in the middile of the keyboard and impossible to reach ones on the right. ESDF makes that slightly less of a problem and isn't awkward at all.

          Here's a pic of my setup.
          I move left, right, up and down with the mouse itself.

            Page up = Backwards
            7 = Strafe left
            8 = Forward
            9 = Strafe right

            then build rest around there, loads easier I reckon if you can get used to it

              Arrow keys all the way for me. I'm left handed though, so the left hand uses the trackball (yes, trackball. Any mouse that moves sucks :p ) and right uses arrow keys for movement, and anything around them to use the basic functions in the game. numpad 0 is my ventrilo button, I rarely use the numpad 1 which is VoiP, numpad 4 is the commorose (only so I can spot things, only reason I use that terribly designed thing), insert is jump...you get the idea. :-P In Desert Combat page down was prone and page up cycle weapons, but yes and no are there now. If I could find a still-useful spot for yes and no, I may change those though.

                Nostromo n52 in the left hand, MS Sidewinder Precision 2 in the middle, Logitech MX1000 in the right hand.

                  Ok ... that could be the most unique idea ive ever heard ... It would take me 4ever to get used 2 but if you could master that ... reflexes would be like instantaneous

                  Page up = Backwards
                  7 = Strafe left
                  8 = Forward
                  9 = Strafe right

                  Much less carpol tunnel lol, but in the middle of the keyboard? sorta awkward, and what is with the page up bein reverse? thats as bad as parachute being the 9 key

                  I'm left handed though, so the left hand uses the trackball (yes, trackball. Any mouse that moves sucks :p

                  Honestly ... I would love to see you play ... You either would be the worst aiming dude on the server (hope your on the other team ) OR you totally mastered the trackball , a feat otherwise unheard of ... But if thats the case ... Id love to see you play IRL all jittery eyed and Itd prolly look like one of them old style golf arcade games :p

                    D'oh..I totally missed that you were left-handed LOL.

                    My mistake.

                    I used to use Insert, Home, Delete, End, PgUp, and PgDn back in 'the day'. I think it was Descent that had those are default keys for movement...

                    There MUST be some left-handed gamer website out there somewhere that has the perfect setup...
