I have been pulling my hair out the last few days with the 1.12 patch not installing correctly on my system. I kept getting a "patch failed" every time I tried, even with clean install of BF2. I think the culprit was definitely the video card, and the refresh rate I had it set on. Originally I had my refresh rate set at 60Hz and the game and patch ran fine, it started to have all the patch troubles when I set my monitor at 75Hz, the game would only load 49% of the map and then it would crash to the desktop, so I reinstalled the game and that is where the trouble started with the path failed error message. Here are the steps I took to get the patch to install correctly......
1. Set the refresh rate to 60Hz
2. Update the latest video card drivers/catalyst
3. Download patches v1.03 & v1.12 from the BF2 site www.battlefield2.com
4. Do a clean install of BF2 (open the game and make sure it runs correctly with the fresh install.
5. Set all of your video card settings to the factory default.
6. Install the patch v1.03 and then install v1.12
Trust me it works, I have tried everything suggested on all the forums, I played BF2 tonight for about 5 hours straight for the first time in 2 days and didn't have one problem.
