Custom maps and unranked servers gone?

Do they even exist in BF2? I've checked my filters and updated the server list but I can't find any. The only servers that ARE running custom maps are outdated and empty.

i dont even know how to play custom maps? I see them all over filefront.com, but when I look for servers to play on, i never see them. Do you have to download them first or what?

I really don't know. I installed some "totalbf2.com mappack" that was like 500MB of maps, but I've never seen any servers running these maps, much less any custom maps period.

No one is playing them these days for several reasons.

No ranking

Not enough people playing on them in the first place, ( I usually check but if there are only 6-11 people playing i dont join).

No knowledge that these maps (some are better than even what came with bf2 Karkand 2 for example) exist.

The silliest thing about the totalbf2.com mappack is that the DICE developers actually commented on the maps and said a few of them were excellent. But where are they in the server list? This would never have been an issue if EA didn't own DICE.
