Sprint not working properly help please

Im having a problem when i press sprint button it takes 1 step in sprint speed then my player just stops.It does the same if i double tap the up key too.

The only way to sprint is to jump and press the sprint key. Well this isn't good cos i lose the stanima from the jump

Any ideas on how to sort this out? Please

well do u hold down the sprint key or do u just press it then release it?
