Yer kidding right?
Don't expect anything for awhile.
I for one hope they take their time testing this one inside out.

Re: New Patch? MIA?
they said they would brind out a new patch, but they didn't even give use something about a date,
for example, with the previous patch, they said oktober or something and it came almost 2 months later, so now without a date, expect it some long time from now

Re: New Patch? MIA?
All they've released so for is some very loose info on what it might contain. This close to the holidays it would be idiotic to release any sort of patch. What happens if they need to hotfix something? Dice employees have people they want to spend the hollidays with too!
As a guess, I'd say you might expect it in mid January (at the very earliest), but more likely late febuary.

Re: New Patch? MIA?
I don't really think peformance is going to be fixed by any future patches. I only expect things like water effects to be corrected, and other things like that. Bugs and glitches, and some mod-like suff too (weapon modifications, exploit limitations, gameplay balancing).
I know absolutely nothing about what makes one game engine better than another, like why HL2 on all high 1600x1200 toggles between 40-300 fps, with an average of 170 on my computer, and then BF2 which ran at an average of 50fps same settings, and now I have to play with more medium than high (and I don't necissarily blame the 1.12 patch even though I've done so before, and it was even part of my sig). Anyway, without a doubt, Special Forces just has more going on, and that's why the peformance was hit so hard. It's a little weird to release an expansion that isn't on the same line of peformance as the main game, or at least I think so, but I imagine EA wanted to make sure that BF2 was still at the top for Christmas with the likes of F.E.A.R. and COD2 (even though they still look better).
It is possible though. I swear that Merc's 6.0 runs faster than vanilla BF2 on my computer, so like I said, I really don't know. I was expecting a lot from the Catalyst 5.12, but the only game I see any boost in is HL2 and that game is over a year old, while Special Forces and the 1.12 patch are extremely new.
We can always hope though...

Re: New Patch? MIA?
They are never going to fix the performance issues. ever. It's just an inefficient engine. Late Feb is probably about right. But by then, they'll have axed half the things they said they'd fix and instead work on a new level for SF. Half Life 2 is probably the best game engine ... ever... so its not really even fair to compare it to BF2, which has worse graphics, and plays with a lower fps despite being 2 years newer.

Re: New Patch? MIA?
indeed, a real performance gain won't be there with the patch, the BF2 engine is just not an effective one, they would have to change to many in the game engine wich is actualy almost impossible .
But, there is still some memory problems with the engine, those could be solved (maybe), wich would result in a more stable FPS (without those FPS drops ) .
-Hope they finaly get the wrond taging bug out of the game
-do something about the bunny hopping
- do something about the noob tubes (only let the nade explode after some distance)
- get rid of severe game crashes for some people
- some glitches
- make it possible to get the SF ribbons who are now coded out for some reason
Also, I don't think there will be many changes to balence or change in weapons, those things only go in the beginning of the game (wich they did in the first patches)
