    Evil Ranking System

    Hey all,

Please can someone explain to me why the ranking system is so evil? I keep coming across posts about it... :p

    Re: Evil Ranking System

ITs just is, no purpose in life, many ways to cheat on it, makes it hard for mod maps and mods to get a foothold in the gmae, due to people wanting to imporve there rank. Its useless, but i do like the stats.

Some believe the ranking system reduces the essential team play elements of the game because some players are only interested in their individual goals like points and awards, rather than the team’s ultimate goal.

Also having a higher rank than others means you get priority for commander and squad leader positions and you get more weapons unlocks. This in itself isn’t that bad a deal but when certain people abuse the system by intentionally padding their stats then the system becomes unfair.

      That's my view anyway :)

        ok thanks,

Does PB not notice someone messing with there stats though?

Or do you just mean people legging it off lone-wolf to leave you to bite the sandwhich?

It's when a small (or large) group of players do certain things to each other (in a non-sexual way) that allow them to accumulate large amounts of points without actually playing the game properly. They don't hack the game but exploit the system, so PB will not react to it... Although, I'm told that if you see it and take screenshots then send to EA, they may have their stats reset.

One example of a player that has his/her own goal is the player that is more interested in getting that Expert Knife Badge than helping the team win the round. Or the player that is so eager to get into battle to get more points (and possibly a Gold Medal) that they fly or drive off not bothering to pick up others.

            Re: Evil Ranking System

My belief in a nutshell: The ranking system brings the worse out in players, driving them into Machiavelli mode, doing ANYTHING to get a few extra points. This includes parking at spawn points and doing nothing but shoot at it with armor, selfishly driving off in armor with teammates at a base, completely ignoring any teammates requests for help in any case, doing stupid things when they DON'T get their way such as stand in front of vehicles and then punish the person that got "their" vehicle, and just be an all around jerk.

I could elaborate, but I'm lazy and I think that gets the point across. :) Besides, your rank doesn't even show a person's skill even in a relative sense, only the amount of points they accumulate, no matter how or how long it too. :-P Another reason for it being useless.

I think tracking the stats is a great idea. I like to keep track of what i've done and how good i've done it.

But putting so much emphasis on it, was just totally wrong. Without there being so much emphasis on it, the game is great. Just an awesome game, pulled down by selfish pricks.

BFTracks had the right idea, yes? Stat tracking for those who cared, and a meaningful leaderboard. Need more be said? :p

                  Re: Evil Ranking System

The ranking system has pros and cons

                  Pros:
                  - The stats. You get to see how much you kill and deaths and such. Nice way to see how good you really are.
                  - Comparing. Compare your stats to your friends, to the leader boards, to the one asshat that bombed you 5 times in a row.
                  - Medals. We not have some stuff to obtain when you are bored? Nice addition, but the medals themself don't do anything except for looking nice.

and some more, but I can't think about then right now

                  Cons:
                  - Like the others say, people abuse the game to get more stats, and for some players, stats are more important then having fun.
                  - Like you guys say again, drives out the worst in people.
                  - Non ranked servers ain't so popular and custom mods and maps is easily forgotten.
                  - The stats are mostly useless in themself, sins you can't rely on someones skills through stats...
                  - Not shure, but I think ranked servers have abit more lag...

Just wait until most mods are in full swing. EA can kiss it's ranked server scam goodbye.

Jesse, in a few days there will be load of "unofficial" ranked servers available with the release of ABR. www.bf2scripts.com
