A few weeks back I let my dad play the game and wrong decision, LOL. Now I can't leave my computer to go to the bathroom before he goes in and starts up the game. So we thought that we would upgrade his computer so he can play. I examined the computer and he has AGP that supports 1x, 2x, and 4x, so do need to get a card that will support 2x/4x or something or will 4x/8x work? I'm looking for a card such as a 9800pro. And he has 2 x 256 of pc2100 ram. I was thinking of upgrading it to 1 gig of pc2700, won't that work? I've also heard someone doing something similar to this adn it didn't work because they were on a router and the servers idenified them as the same ip and they couldn't play on the same server. We're runnning off a router also, it's D-Link. Both of the computers go hook up to the router which is hooked up to modem.

1) AGP 8x card should work fine in a 4x mobo, they are generally backwards compatible. The only thing that would not be compatible are the real old AGP standards that operated at different voltage, but the AGP slot for those is "different" than the newer ones and newer cards wouldn't plug in. If your mobo supports 4x, you should be fine with any 4x or 8x card. Make sure if the card has a power connector, that you connect that as some of the newer cards don't get enough juice through the mobo alone.
2) You can upgrade to pc 2700 just fine, doesn't hurt to run it underclocked (I'm doing this right now in my HTPC, when I bought ram the 2700 was cheaper than the 2100).
3) I bring my computer over to my friend's house all the time, never a problem for us having 2 computers on the same network through a router.

It would help to know the make and model of the motherboard. Different motherboards support different speeds of RAM. If it's REALLY old, you may run into problems trying to run PC2700.
Also, you should have NO problems whatsoever both playing at the same time through a router.Comment

LOL, yup I had one too, but I've rebuilt mine. The only thing that's the same is the HD's and proccessor, I'll hopefully be getting a new one for Christmas!Comment
