What causes keyboard lag?

Hello,

Just wondering what causes keyboard lag (i.e. when I switch weapons) I find it takes a second for the weapon to change.

This leads me to ask... (I tried to use the search button but kept getting Page Can Not Be Displayed Errors)

At the moment I am using a $10 PS2 keyboard would a new USB keyboard make a difference in my gaming experience? In addition looking to go wireless (I think), reason I would like to go wireless is the fact I would be able to connect the PC to my projector.

Years ago I had returned my wireless combo because I found it buggy in games. Are there any reasons not to go wireless with today’s version of wireless mouse and keyboard?

Well wireless would just cause most lag and it isn't to do with the keyboard it will be to do with your computer.

The only issue you are likely to find that is directly tied to your keyboard is the number of simultanious keys it will support.

A $10 cheapo keyboard is likely to not recognize any more than 2 keys pressed at the same time, while higher end ones will take 8 to 12.

View game stats. Use the GamePanel™ LCD to view game stats, create new macros, and keep track of important system information without leaving the game. The LCD panel closes completely for transport and storage.

I guess that would be cool,but im sure you cant do it with BF2

The LCD on hat sucker is actually a seperat appliance that is coded in C++.
If you can munch code, you can make it do practically anything. I'm sure someone will write an app to track BF2 stuff eventually.

My roommate picked one up and I gotta say the thing rocks. The illuminated keys are hella handy if you like to play in the dark (fuggin GREAT for HL2!).

It's got a HUGE footprint, tho. I'm holding off on picking one up until I get more desk space. I can also see some abuse from the macro keys, but there's plenty of other products that have the same functionality.

Was hoping the new wireless would not cause any additional lag. But then again maybe I was wishing. Maybe I'll pick a combo up and test. Anyone have any suggestions? From previous posts it looks like the Logitech is quite popular.

In addition, I see manufactures printing a number on their mouse packages (1600 or 2000) that I would assume is the amount of times the mouse read movements. Does this make a difference or is it all marketing?

The comment about simultaneous keys is correct. Some cheap keyboards skimp on a decent keyboard controller module, and they have trouble handling multiple key-presses. Your issue might be the same or similar...a cheap PS2 keyboard might have low cost electronics.

You're running sound on software (at least that's what my friend next to me says) I dunno, GL. Change sound to "hardware"

to get around that problem you need a keyboard that supports "full-n-key rollover" and you can press as many keys at once as you like. very few keyboard support it or say they do though. my fujitsu siemens KBPC2 supports it but it took my months to find it :)

Hopefully the G15 supports full-n-key-rollover.
