15 fps Low frame rate problem

    Ok Specs
    AMD 3000+
    1 gig 2700 ram
    chaintech 6800 card w/81.95 drivers

After about 30-2hrs (more frequent now) The game will slowly and go to about 15fps when looking at large buildings like the tv station at sharqi and the hotel on karkand. Then no matter where I look the framerate will be 15fps and the sound is choppy and I have to reboot. Now i check my temp on the gpu when I get the first signs of this and it only reads about 66c which to nvidia is still "green", could that be too hot or is the card faulty or just bf2?

It's really up to you. You can spend your time looking for the reason or just lower your settings and enjoy. I know that's a horrible answer and I shot it down when I first heard it, but I've also now spent dozens of hours doing everything I can to get it running at full specs and it just does'nt happen. It happens for some people, and it's happened for me once before. Dunno what I did right but I had to reinstall because I was getting booted from games (punkbuster), and since then it's been impossible to play at full specs in both BF2 and SF. This is what I play at when I'm online:

    VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@85Hz
    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
    VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
    VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

In BF2 I average 70-80fps and in SF I average 40-60. I COULD run at higher specs but sometimes online can get laggy and I'd rather have the extra head room.

If you're playing in single player and want the eye candy, I suggest you do forum searches for "1.12", "Special Forces", "Lag", "fps", etc. Lots of people are experiencing problems and it doesn't seem to matter what your specs are (generally speaking).

well whats your setup like? Mines just a regular 6800, but I dont think theres anyway in hell that I could manage to have good frame rates at 1280x1024
I've already searched around and havent seen roughly any threads, but I did see someone mention this. It's very odd because it only goes to 15fps no higher no less on regular BF2, SF is out of the question.

im not sure if ur problem is overheating because my old comp use to over heat in the summer while playing cs and i would get low fps, but it would be more like stutter..like freeze for a second every 20 seconds..but correct me if im wrong..

but when u first play, wat if ur framerates? (b4 droppign to 15fps)

about 38-55fps depending on which map it is.

I think that its' possible that effects are leaking. Note that the other guy has 2GB. I also have 1GB. I had a similar problem with BF (6600 GT AGP), but I went to low effects and geometry (rest medium) and it loks as good as it did (bodies a bit more squar-ish) but it's much more playable and I get none or little FPS drop during close encounters.

If you also get stutters while piloting a chopper, might wanna look up other threads. I posted one in general SF discussion (with a set of things I changed on my system, but unsure which one exactly solves).

I'll try puting geom at low, It was med before and I'm still having this problem. When ever I look at a large building it drops significantly and later maybe a around or so the card stutters every 2 seconds and then freezes with artifacts. I'm starting to get really disappointed in Nvidia, maybe I should return the card and get an ati...

No, do NOT put goemetry on low. Cars won't appear untill they are closer to you. Tweakguides.com has a good BF2 guide, go check it out.

It's almost an art finding a setup that looks decent and plays well. Basically anything lower than what I said mines at and Karkand suddenly goes from looking normal to looking very strange in a not-good way, even if other maps look fine. It' can definately get frustrating though. My friend and I have the same videocard (he has the pci-e version but same gpu/vpu), and ram, both by the same manufacturer. I believe we have the same motherboard however his is the sli version (but with just one videocard), and the only real difference is that he has a 3800 processor and I have a 3200. However, I'm overclocked to a higher frequency then he is, and yet he can play all high at 1600x1200 and I am forced to play 1280x1024 and more medium than high.

This is not an uncommon problem..At least once a day some one is posting about a problem with being stuck at 15.0 fps...some folks had the prob start with the 1.12 aptch other like myself have not been able to play since the 1.03 patch ..it seems to start when ever it wants but once it happens...you can try any thing new os and format your hd nothing works..I sure hope Ea is going to have a fix with there new patch or I have wasted all my money.
