The DICE way of treating gun accuracy

I have found a trend in Dice's treatment to gun accuracy: the heavier the gun is, the less accurate it is.

So you get Barret less accurate than M24, LMG less accurate than assualt, G3 less accurate than M16, and Carbine (G36C), being the most accurate of all.

With the current weapons I agree. It is suppose to change in the new patch though. Then the real guns will get some real accuracy (hopefully)..

The wheight of the G3 is almost the same as the M16A2, 4.5kg and 4.47kg. And the M16A2 doesn't has the granade launcher equipped yet.

              HK G3: 4.5kg empty.
              AK-47: 4.3kg empty.
              M16A1/M16A2: 2.89kg/3.77kg empty.
              FN F2000: 3.6kg empty.
              HK G36C: 2.8kg empty.
              AKS-74U: 2.71kg empty.
              M4A1: 2.53kg empty.

In comparison the XM8 weighs 2.66kg!! If I was to guestimate accuracy I would say the longer barreled are better than the short versions like M4A1/G36C/AKS-74U. Exeption being the AK47!

In the next patch the G3 will be more accurate as will the L85 and the M241SAW along with some of the other support weapons. I like the G3 so it would be great to get some improvements there.

The snipers will be improved as well and it better include the M95. :thatsbad:

The M16 should be (slightly) more accurate than the G3. Not really sure aboout LMGs accuracy compared to rifles but as an educated guess I would say it should be pretty much equal. Obviously the carbine should be less accurate than a comparable assault rifle but not by very mcuh.

I really hope the G3 gets improved accuracy in the next patch, currently it can't hit anything without spraying a few bullets in the general direction.:hmm:

Explain the sub-machineguns then smart guy.
                      :p

Lighter then all of 'em, but hopeless spray and pray weapons.

Don't forget that GOOD GAME BALANCE is the order of the day here. I'ts not about how much it wieghs, it's about making it work with all the other mechanics.

Right... PKM weights more than MP5, still more accurate.

Re: The DICE way of treating gun accuracy

It is about balance because if the sniper rifles were increased in accuracy, they would dominate the map. There is bullet drop so you have to ajust to that and the M95 isn't for extreme long ranges anyway. The G3 is accurate, but it has to be on single shot and I have no problem hitting people with it. I think none of the guns really need tweaking besides the SMGs, G3, and machine guns slightly. The G3 needs to just be as accurate as the AK47, the MGs need to just be a little upped in accuracy, but not much since their job is just cover fire and to supply ammo for the others. They aren't a one man force like the assualt is and they should be in a squad anyway. The SMGs need to be just like the MP7 in terms of accuracy and they should of been that way from the beginning because the MP7 is a damn good gun. The damage also needs to be 20% instead of 19% for them.

The only reason a M16 should have better accuracy than a G3 is cause of recoil from the larger bullte. The G3 is probably actually much more accurate as the larger bullet has more momentum. The G3 also has a longer, heavier barrel, which also makes it more accurate. Weapons like the G3, M14, and teh FAL arn't used anymore because they were made like rifles (not assault rifles). They are basically, rifles with more ammo, and the ABILITY to fire full auto for CQC. On the other hand, the AK-47 is basically a machinegun withthe ABILITY to go single shot. Right now, gun makers have found the right blend between the two. The G3 should be more accurate than almost all weapons in game now (sniper rifles are the only ones more accurate).
