If you are lucky enough in a tank to nail an incoming attack copter with your main gun it should be one shot one kill!

Its a hard shot to line up and takes good timing too. I can pull this off once an awhile and its disappointing that the copter keeps coming and wastes me and fly’s off for repairs.

Its fair to think a direct tank round to a copter would obliterate it. Especially to the cockpit area.

Agreed. Or, at least, it should send it spinning off course so they can't just keep coming straight at you.

Heck yeah, if an M-95 can penetrate the cockpit, it seems laughable that a tank's main cannon can not.

The 120mm tank round and the T-90 and Chinese 125mm can penetrate any thing out there,If a chopper takes a direct hit from a tank round it would cease to exist.

There're two possible situations:
1. The high-velocity round passes completly through the chopper, and the copter is left with a huge gaping hole in its side, a bad thing for something that flys.
2. The round explodes a split second after penetration and rips apart the cabin.

Yea the chopper is fodder compared to something designed to rip through inches of armor plating.

I love nothing more than shooting down a chopper whore with my tank. I agree that one tank round should bring any chopper down easily. Look at the scores of chopper whores vs. tank whores. Choppers can fly faster and shoot faster and their pilots can ring up way higher scores than drivers of tank in the same amount of time. I could care less about fixing the bunny hopping problem because everybody does it, but EA should make it so that tanks can shoot down any chopper with one round.

I believe a direct hit to the cockpit destroys an attack chopper(it happened to me a few times). Before the patches it took up to 3 shots to take down an enemy chopper anywhere you hit it(I never flew a chopper during those times, I was on the tank side).

I think it should be one shot anywhere like the others said, to take it down.

Welcome to Battlefield 2. Let's not start quoting projectile speeds, bullet penetration and so on, this is not reality, this is a game. Maybe they will change it some day. Maybe they won't, this is not the biggest issue with BF2 by a long shot. <----(hehe Pun)

Cmon, it isn't that hard to line up a chopper with the main gun. On certain maps it is almost too easy. Last night on Gulf of Oman I took out the cobra twice and the BH twice with the tanks main gun. Each time they took 2 shots, but they were problably already banged up from all the stingers.

If the tank gun took down 3/4 of the armor of a chopper that might be better. Now that choppers are only getting 8 missiles, if tanks could take out choppers in 1 shot, it would switch the ballance too much. Right now the helicopter is one of the things keeping the tank in check.

If 1 shot kills are true after the next patch, all the noobier chopper pilots will stop using attack helos to hover & cap flags (ez target) and actually use them to try to take out armor.

Though, I'd like killing them in one hit.

Is it that hard for people to switch to the heavy machine gun once you hit with the main gun? Chances are you'll destroy the helicopter before it would be able to do much, especially if you take the helicopter pilot by surprise.

Anyway it seems that DICE is nerfing the helicopters anyway so you should be happy.
