    Re: refurbished

Refurbished in most cases is better than buying new. With video cards, most returns of 'defective' product are not defective at all. The PC owner either didn't install it properly or had software issues on their PC that conflicted with proper driver installation. There are of course hardware failures as well. The manufacturer tests the card and if it passes, it's resold as a refurb. If there is a component failure, that is replaced and the card is tested. The key here is that they put the refurb product through much more strenuous testing than new product. Chances of failure are much lower going thru the refurb program than with new/boxed product.

Just make sure that the warranty is decent. Just like retail, some refurbs are lemons and you don't want to be screwed over.

IT's usually a good idea since 95% of the time they work, and if it doesn't just make sure the warranty covers it. Plus it's real cheap.
