X-Fi + BF2=Freezing

I got my X-Fi Xtrememusic a few days ago. I installed it and it worked wonderfully. Yesterday, my computer started freezing. I would play Battlefield 2 for about 20 minutes and it seemed fine, then all of a sudden it would just freeze and the sound would stop working. It would totally lock up and I would have to reboot. Today when it froze, I rebooted and the sound was working. Any other games I haven't had problems with, they all perform and sound great. It's too bad that BF2 keeps crashing being it's my favorite game. Creative or EA or both need to make a patch or something.

Update: Today after I turned my settings to High instead of Ultra like I was told on another forum, it played fine. After about 5 maps it froze again, and it's really ****ing me off. Anyone have a solution?

Did you update your drivers? Creative released new X-fi drivers not too long ago.

I have an X-fi FPS Fatal1ty card with no problems.

with the x-fi xtrememusic u can switch between like entertainment mode and gaming mode and another mode. the gaming mode is supposed to be less cpu intensive. try putting it on gaming mode. its worth a try.

I always play on gaming mode, and yes, I have the newest drivers.

First off, how do you know its the sound card causing the freeze? It would seem most likely but I have also seen much weirder things happen.

Also what is the rest of your machine setup? How big is your power supply?

Have you checked your Event Viewer to see if there is anything useful there?

Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.

It could very well be something else.

hi there, this may sound stupid but just in case. have you disabled your on-board sound chip in your bios? you'd be surprised how many peep's skip this or simply overlook this, i myself went thru a to-do with this as i had added a 6800 bfg ct oc card and an x-fi platinum sound card and another 512 of pc3200 mem. all i did after disabling the bios on board chip was to do 1 thing... reset and cleared the systems cmos jumper,then went into bios to disable onboard sound chip then defragged the drive and BAMM...everything works like new!!
make sure the old drivers are actually uninstalled.. hope it helps!

It's definately the card, take a look at Creatives forums, many topics with BF2 and X-Fi. And I didn't have onboard sound, it was a daughtercard that went into a PCI-E x1 slot. I did the normal steps with uninstalling the old drivers. The rest of my computer is fine too:
