Battlefield 2- Lies in the shadow of 1942?

Is it just me? Or does BF2 lose its "spark" easily?

I havent played in around 1 week, and I used to play every 1-2 days. I just aint botherd, but recently I found my 1942 CD and installed it. Man it was great!!

Im just thinking, do you think Battlefield 2 is better or worse than 1942? Obviously not in graphics, but in gameplay and community.

    Thanks

I think the repeat fun factor of BF42 and DC is alot higher than BF2. I got bored with BF2 about two and a half months ago and rarely ever play it, and I started playing the day the demo came out.

DC held my attention for much longer than that. I blame alot of it on the lack of content.

The demo was GREAT! I still hunt for Gulf Of Oman only maps, clearly the best map in the game.

Desert Combat was great, I loved how every server had different whores on them, you got used to them :P .

If you think Oman is the best map in the game no wonder you find it boring.

Yes it clearly is a far worse game, but games always go to **** when EA decides to buy the company that makes them look what happened to CnC.

I still play '42 every now and then, the community support was much better back then too. BF42.com was where alot of the modding started too and rexman wrote the first tools for ediiting.

What we all are missing out on is a variety of factors. Many "realism" b-s things that Dice put in the game is what kills the game's longevity for playing.

The relative accuracy/inaccuracy of all the guns.
The wonderful ranking system that can put a better gun in the hands of a walking moron.
The SF mod that clearly puts people (who didn't want to buy the mod) at a disadvantage.
Include in the fact that air power seems well-nigh indestructible.
And, the 'overheating' of everything in the game.
Also the large tank/helo/apc battles that are NOT in this game, compared to DC's "73 Easting" and other maps.
What's the most you can have in heavy armor on one map at any given time? 3 units? 4?
And where's the artillery?.....Given to a hopeless commander instead of different people who could utilize it in localized spots.
And don't forget the destroyers, subs, and battleships on each side.
All the 'shadows' and other b-s graphics that made the game even more frustrating to fight in.

THAT'S the difference DC and BF42 has OVER this new, wondrous game that DICE decided to put out. Realism can go to hell, for all I care. On top of that, their idea of 'Arcade' sucks also.

Isnt there hope though with mods like FH2 coming out soon? Hopefully those guys will put this game back in the right spot.

although i wish for good things for these mods, intially everyone will play them, but eventually everyone will migrate back the the evil ranking system.

In my opinion they are about equal. What you forget now when you play is all the problems that you use to have (god forsaken spitfires, I'll never forget them - although at least the flak made you feel like you had a chance). Also possibly because people are a lot more competitive than they where due to the ranking system and what not.
Maybe also the fact that its not 'fresh'. When BF1942 came out it was totally different, you could forgive any flaws it had just for the way the gameplay worked. Tickets, flags, tanks, jeeps, infantry, its all old hat now, copied by a million games.
All through the time I played I enjoyed it just as I enjoy Battlefield 2 now. EA published BF1942 also and the game was a mess at launch, but it improved to that kind of legendary status. Maybe you enjoyed the time frame more? I know thats one of the things I really liked about it and why I am looking forward to Forgotten Hope 2. Desert Combat I did not particular like (disgraceful, I know) but I do enjoy BF2, and possibly due to the fact that armour never overruns any of the levels.
I'm a grunt at heart, always have been and always will be, be it trudging across the desert of El Alemein, or across the wetlands of Zatar and as long as I get to shoot people and blow vehicles up then I'm happy.

Well I say the community was/is far better than DC, not that these forums arn't cool, but in-game, people talked to each-other! People would compliment each other on a good kill, an awesome thing happening or an untimley death. The good old days I say
