    USB headset not working.

I am trying to use a logitech USB headset for VOIP. Out of the game it works fine but in the game I can't hear anything on the Microphone test. If I start playing my ping has gone from 10 -15 up to 300 - 900 and the game is continually interrupted with the 'connection problem' message. The actual headphones work okay. Not the greatest sound but does me fine.

    I am running 2.4Ghz P4, 512Mb Ram, 128Mb Radeon, Soundblaster 5.1. My internet connection is 10Mb cable.

So anyone got any ideas why the headset is causing my ping to go through the roof and why the Mic does not seem to be working. I have spent ages trawling the search pages and cant find any similar threads.

Its the game, or the server. Sometimes they turn it off. Best way to tell, is join a squad, if you hear others talking, its on, if not , prob off. I have the same set works on some servers others not. Probably an attempt to save bandwidth by server.

Actually its the game. EA overrides the DX9 setting to the default mic port, which means those of us using USB mics or if you're like me and have an X-fi and want to use the front headphone/mic jack, then you can't.

Another good call by EA. I wrote them a ****ed off e-mail and they never responded. Great customer service.

You could try alt-tabbing out of the game, checking/resetting your mic options and volume, then alt-tab back in.

        See if that helps/works.

It will crash the game, I've tried it because I'd much prefer to use my front I/O with BF2 but like I said EA doesn't allow this.

Is your mic in the primary mic-in jack (usually on the back of your computer). If not it will not work in-game. The VoIP test doesn't change the DX9 setting, but the game does.

My BF2 doesn't crash when I do this...but I don't have the Fatal1ty edition or any edition with the front I/O bay.

Mine is plugged in the back USB, I have an AUDIGY 2 ZS gamer Limited Edition sound card. Works as long as its turned on at the server.
