Essentially, it has the same effect as alt+tabbing out of the game and coming back in except it's involuntary for me.

You summed it up there; the problem is exactly the same.
However, for me it doesn't alt-tab (or minimize) automatically. At what point exactly does it minimize?

I remember on my old computer, whenever the system "checked" the CD-ROM, whatever game I was in would get minimized. Does it happen at the CD-check?

This is how it happens:

1)Join online server from BF Autoloader.
2)BF2 checks DVD drive and begins to load.
3)Screen turns black for a few seconds.
4)BF2 menu shows (the one that shows BFHQ, SinglePlayer, Multiplayer, Options, etc...)
5)BF2 menu flickers off and minimizes back to windows desktop (BF2 is now minimized).
6)I click on the BF2 task on the taskbar to get back into BF2.
7)This is now the level loading screen and the colours are messed up which carries on into the game after loading is completed.

The only server that does not do this is:

Battlefield Command Battle Server Public
83.142.229.213:29900

This server gets through to the loading screen without minimizing to windows desktop. Maybe someone that knows enough about this game can figure out what's making the difference with this specific server compared to other servers.

Anyways, whoever that's having this problem, give it a shot with that server and post how it worked out.
