Anyone else feel the maps don't have that "warzone" feel to them?

Aside from having to dodge through machine gun fire, chuck grenades, hide from tanks, and cringe as a jet flys over head, the maps in BF2 don't have enough of a "warzone" feel to them. Most of them have one or two crashed cars, and that's it. It would be awesome to see some buildings with their sides missing, or craters in the streets/country side, trees with their top halves gone, etc. Even a longer body-stay would help. Thoughts?

the best thing to make it feel like a war is when people work together and go toe to toe for a bse, sadly this doesn't happen often.

But when it does its awesome and better than any fancy new graphics.

that would be great and some oil smoke in parts of the map or something would stop the plane whorez and add to infantry battles, some burning wreckage!

Can wait till you can level a building then later fight in the rubble!

i just think some maps should have more flags, like mashtur city could have 2 flags one in each side of that huge bridge down south and on the top right corner near those little abbandoned houses, and some other maps would be cooler with more flags in cool places aswell, it would give ppl more work and more fun.

When I play on Karkand, it feels like the city was created by the MEC to give them some cover, it doesn't really give you the feel that people would actually live there. But then again, I dont live in Iraq.

A destructible environment would be cool, but it would cause hella lag with most of today FPS engines. I have to admit that It would be cool to have a plane drop a bomb, create a crator, that the infantry then lay down in to use as cover.

Destructible environment aside...more half blown up buldings and some random craters would be cool. Just to provide more cover/ambush nests. Even hulks of cars...that aren't on fire...would be pretty sweet and would provide some extra cover. It would force the vehicles to pay more attention then just simply watching all the alleys.

The maps do lack a certain ambience that BF1942, and BFV to a degree, certainly had. I'm just not that charmed by the environments.

Overall the game feels like paintball rather than war.

Wow, very well put my friend.

I suppose one would ask for the introduction of people running around while the fighting is going on, but I would hope that never made it into a game. War is too terrible to made into a game, and I feel nothing man can create will ever come close to the true horrors

A lot of the BF1942 maps had a real sense of war, like Berlin and Stalingrad - both featured gutted cities and dark, gray landscapes. Lots of smoke. Very eerie.

I can't say that Desert Combat had superbly immersive maps either, so it must not be an easy thing to do.

It seems like maps like Karkand should have more wreckage and smoke, more fortifications, and more craters. Instead it looks really weak.

Remember Stalingrad from BF1942? Besides the extreme grenade spamming, it was a good looking map, hell, half the city maps in BF1942 were awesome.

I find that the BF games in general lack an outdoors feel. When you are playing the game it feels like you are in a studio that is decorated to look like you are outside. The lighting effects and sky are very fake feeling.

I feel Novalogic did better at making you feel like you were actually playing in an outdoor enviroment, in Joint Ops..

mmm.....everything seems to clean, like it was all setup for you to go in and start playing around.

play wake island as usmc and push from one side of the island to the other. most intense infantry combat I've EVER seen. we had everybody from both sides fighting over south basebecause it was all china had left. smoke nades, tank fire, occasional roar of jets, helos overhead.....machine gun fire.....it was glorious and the only time i've ever really, really enjoyed infantry combat since the demo.

I personally like the 'city maps', and 'gulf of oman' the best. The other levels always feel empty especially since it seems hard to find retail servers that have great ping time.

I personally think a lot of people that own the retail end up playing the demo of 'gulf of oman' because the ping times are usually lower and there is always like 64 people on there.

You should be able to use doors on some buildings. also the damage model is screwy like I can blow something up like the radar dish, but if I shoot the hell out of it with a tank there is no damage.

Gulf of Oman is one of the worst. What the hell are those beachfront bases? Little huts with sandbags? The US would never bother, and the MEC should be able to fortify a lot better. And nice military airstrip in the middle of nowhere.

I swear, most of the maps are utter trash.

One thing that I think would boost the felling and intensify the battle was if if the CP's had to be taken in a certain order. It would bring alot of action to that front!
