Crashing to desktop

Hi there
I have a problem with the patches, witch is:
I installed bf2 and the game runs normal.
After installing either patch (1.03 or 1.12) the game crashes to desktop before the starting screen shows up.
The patches are well installed and it says that its patched...
Even when i try to install Special Forces, the problem is the same.
Any help would be very usefull.
I'm running an Athlon 64 3500+, 1Gb DDR, Gforce 6600GT 128 DDR with 81.85 drivers, 2xSATA 200GB, Motherboard ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, and Windows XP SP2, with everything up to date.

I think i've had the same problem, 1.03 worked fine, but updating to 1.12 works fine until i start bf2. It comes up with the very first bf2 logo, but then reports a windows error msg (windows has found an error - send//dontsend error report) reinstalling to 1.03 worked fine but theres no servers left anymore. updating to 1.12 still gives same problem :/

Im having exactly the same problem, bf2 worked fine, installed the patch then special forces and its screwed, get a black screen for a sec then it crashes to descktop, realy need help, anyone fixed this problem???

Heres the fix: find something else to play until the bumpkins at EA fix the abortion-of-a-patch that is 1.12

Yeah I get randomly dumped to desktop as well, but for me it's usually in the middle of a game. Sometimes this can be after only 20 min of play, sometimes an hour, and it certainly never did this before the 1.12 patch.

yes, I get exactly the same thing with 1.12 and/or SF

I have tried uninstalls, reinstalls in safe mode, new drivers, old drivers, a complete reinstall of windows, several different downloads of 1.12 from different sites

it is bloody annoying, but there are still a few ranked 1.03 servers I can play on

I had that problem too with the 1.03 patch. I uninstalled the game, patched again but no result. then I wanted to show my brother how it doesn't work, and it worked. I don't know how, but it worked again. Hope you will have luck too.
