  • Cannot play BF2 - error saying use BF2 2 Install Disc

Each time I try to play the game I get an error saying "Please ensure Battlefield 2 Install Disc is in the drive, select ok and restart the application".

Obviously the correct CD is in the drive. I have loaded the latest patch.
My computer is up to snuff.

I even went back to CompUSA and got another copy of the game to make sure it just wasn't the CD.

I have two cd drives. One is DVD burner the other is a CD burner.
    Niether one work.
    DVD is a new Plextor.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
I have used the search here to no avail.

    Thanks in advance

Ok, this is a BF2 issue with IDE drivers. Either go back to an older set (which is retarded) or change your CD/DVD-ROM drives to PIO mode. Its a fix I found after a buckload of trawling BF2 support forums.

Go to Device Manager, open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and double click on your controller. Then in the Secondary Channel tab, change the drop down menu to PIO mode. Click OK a few times and reboot.

Dont know what it does, and dont care as long as BF2 starts.

Now to fix the random and incessant crashing to desktop...
