crouch key not working

I can no longer use my crouch key? It can not be used on the keyboard or the mouse? anyone know how to fix this?

I work on a technical support desk so let me give you the normal spiel...

When did it stop working?

And what did you change at this time? (system updates, driver updates, new equipment?)

Have you tested the same key in a differnt application? (my guess is yes)

Have you tried reseting the key mapping?

Does the same thing occur on other hardware? Have you tried swapping out the keyboard?

Finially try reinstalling the application (BF2) if nothing else works and see if that resolvs the issue...

Please note the above is a bit of a joke and seriously i have no idea why that would happen... :p

haha, thats terrilbe advice.. reinstall due to a key not working.... Thank god ur joking...

go to your controls.con file
go to the search
type in 'crouch'
once you find it, go to the end of the command. It should say ID_KEY 'something'
that something is what you want to press to crouch. Therefore if you say, leftshift, it would look like this..
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PICrouch IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftShift 0 0

BTW, if you can't find your controls.con file here is the directory
Documents and Settings\WindowsName\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Controls.con

Since I only have 1 profile created in BF2, it gives me the name 0001. If you had more than 1, the 2nd profile folder would be called 0002. This goes in chronological order, starting at 0001 with the OLDEST profile.

thank you for the advice I will try that and hope it works. The problem started after I installed my Logitech MX510 and I tried using one of the buttons to map to crouch. I hear the crouch command isn't that useful anyway? Some people claim it doesn't help the accuracy and it only makes your body more of a bundled up target??

You WILL want crouch to work...so let's get this working for you.

Check your controls.con file as above.

Hit the 'reset to defaults' button on the controls screen.

I had a similar problem. My crouch key worked for one account but I couldn't set it for the other account so I just edited the controls.con file, now it works.

I have a slightly different crouch problem. It works fine in normal circumstances but I can't crouch when using the tank machinegun or when using one of those stationary machineguns.

I think I punched my Ctrl key too often and now it does not react everytime I press it. Very annoying. I had to map it to CapsLock...

i think crouch is very useful for when ur caping flags or generally hiding because your feet don't stick out the other side of the wall.

I waste so many keyboards it is not normal.
Keyboard abuse is going to ruin me some day.

I am looking for a new robust keyboard. G15 is not available yet in Switzerland. I think it looks pretty stable, and has a nice backlight. I'll have to wait until middle of january.
