Searching for specific server maps using part of name.

    Hi

Using the server finder in SF, I used to be able to type in just part of the map name kark for example in the map box, do a rescan, and it would come up with all the karkland maps or any other starting with Kark.
    This does not work anymore.
This was very handy if you only want to list specific maps as it makes it very quick to scan.

Anyone else found this new bug, or has it changed in some way.

Sorry mate, as everybody knows... string comparison logic is infinitely more complicated than a 3D engine. Because of this hightened complexity to the game, string comparisons will be introduced in a future patch.

Hi Thanks for the reply, When you say "introduced in a later version"
Ime sure this did work when I first loaded SF.
It curtainly worked in Desert Combat.
But after patching to lates SF it stopped working.
Are you saying that it was never in this mod ?

      Regards.

Hm, :). You failed to spot the sarcasm...

Whilst not being able to comment on your problem specifically, I (and many, many others) have had so many issues with the browse PoS, I'm not entirely surprised you're struggling to filter by part of the name...

Yeah Ive had that problem since the third patch, I used to be able to just type in karkand, but now when you do that it won't find anything and worse yet when you erase it, and tell it to sort by say number of players and hit update, it won't find any servers...

            lol wtf.

You can only have 6 search options enabled for results to show up ( i think thats what you mean) so for example if i check, punkbuster, ranked, large maps, small maps, medium maps, and no password, and then tryu and type something in one of the search boxes nothing will show up. but if you uncheck small maps or some other option and then search for something it will work and results will show up

It's still possible. You have to type in the first part of the map name. So don't type in kark, type in strike and then hit update. That's how i've always done it and it always works.

This was broken (or does EA privately call it a "feature?" ) in the 1.03 patch.

Purportedly, you can still use a wildcard to accomplish the desired result. (I personally haven't tried it, but many have stated it works.)

Just use '%' as your wildcard, e.g., type in (no quotes) "%kark" to find all Karkand maps.

In truth, this was posted in regard to the server name field, but I imagine it might work in the map name field, too. Try it and see.

Update #1: Okay, I just tried it, and this only seems to work in the "Server Name" field, not in the "Map Name" field. Sorry.

Update #2: Just typing in "kark" in the "Map Name" lists only the servers currently running Strike at Karkand. This is in vBF2 (w/1.18 patch), so apparently yes, there is a bug in SF. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

yup, having the same problem too. so i started using the All Seeing Eye server browser. i'd suggest you do the same too. it's much better than ea's POS browser.

Dude, the Game Browser has been Crap from the getgo. I use Q-Tracker if I'm looking for friends on the Battlefield. But Q-Tracker also hooks you up with Plenty Servers, both BF2 & BF2:SF. Enjoy

Hi, found it works fine if you just put in the first few charactors and refresh two times.
                              Thanks for the replies.
