DC artillery was great, it was a player skill, not a click a place and fire there thing. And best of all, it required a fair amount of skill to utilize. I never saw an unskilled player jump into the arty pieces and try to attack distances(Note: Arty pieces were owned by tanks in close up combat) The only time you would get people competing for artillery would be at the east flag of "73 easting".
It also encouraged teamwork(something that BF2 is all about) Only a sniper, assault, or spec ops could call for artillery, giving the Person controlling the artillery a camera of the area for 60 seconds, or until the person giving the camera died. If a sniper gave the arty controllers a good view of a flag, they could effectively pummel the flag, making it easier to cap(none of that BF2 "Click, spray n' pray"
But those are just my dreams, I doubt mobile artillery will ever make its way to BF2, just like mobile stinger kits won't ever be in.
