if u got the x64 version then go with that if all ur hardware is up to date...i use home on my pc and the fact is, os counts for nothing. These games are all about the ram, video card, and processor speed. As for me, I've got 2gb of ddr ram, geForce 6800 gt oc, and a 3.2ghz amd processor. even with special forces I still run all the junks on high.

That plus pro seems more stable to me.

I'll agree with that to an extent, I just don't find the instability some seem to. I switched back and forth between them in teh last couple years, and both work the same. I now have a slipstreamed Home, that works fine. But as far as gaming, and average daily use either has functioned the same for me.

like I said, I own both HOME and PRO and I use both on two different Comp's. They both work the same. they both are completely stable. just home has less features but most average people will not need those features so they save money by buying the Home edition.

SP2 works just fine with HOME.

Guys, guys, guys. Don't tell someone to get XP 64 when they're trying to game. There really aren't any games out yet that take full advantage of a 64 bit OS except for the 64 bit version of FarCry. It's great to have hardware that's ready for the 64 bit future that Windows Vista will bring, but for now there is going to be a lack of 64 bit hardware support and it's going to mess up your software.

if your want it to play games today go for windows xp home edition. windows xp 64 bit is betaware. using windows xp 64 bit will give you nothing but problem when trying to play games. game software developers are still developing and company's are testing for windows xp 32 bit, like home edition and not windows xp 64 bit. i have the 64 bit version and the 32 bit version and i can tell you from experience dont list to all those that post without having used them both.

you guys have no idea waht you are talking about. i dual boot windows MCE and Win x64. XP x64 works just fine with virtually every game. Battlefield 2 runs perfectly.

My roomie has a tri-boot system with Pro, MCE, and x64. He says that x64 runs smoother and looks better than the 32bit versions. I can agree with him that it does look a little better, but it runs about the same on either OS to me.

I have Xp Pro and it still runs ok, not sure if there is a difference between XP Pro and Home.

I use MCE and have no problems with it. I own pro, mce, and 64 bit, mce is just like pro for stability but looks nicer out of the box without adding resource hogging appearance changers

XP Home is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENT than XP Pro except that Pro has some administrative functions unlocked and usable. Most of them are related to things you would do in business and are probably of no use to a gamer.

You guys that think you have a more stable system because you're running Pro are delusional. It's the same exact OS as Home. And for the guy that commented about the dual core, XP Home is fine with dual cores because it reads them as one processor. You CANNOT run two physical processors on XP Home, but you CAN run one dual core. If you have Pro, you could actually have two dual cores for a total of 4 cores.

One thing I noticed about Home is it doesn't seem to take as well to SP2, for some reaon I had problems also once I update (I have one of the first Home disc :P). There was no USB 2.0 with Home when it came out, not till SP1, so when I update, I have to go in and change the drivers so it will run with 2.0 instead, other than that though, the quirks are small.

XP sucks in general. Think about it. It's about 5 or 6 years old now. It's running with patches on top of patches on top of patches. Plus the patches to run all the new software. Windows Vista will have been completely started from scratch with new code, and I think we'll all find it much more compatible with our newer games.

AND I'm willing to bet that you guys that complain about XP Home not running right are the same guys that click on every pop up that you see trying to win an IPod. I'm a firm believer that 99% of the time that there are Windows problems, it's the moron user, not the OS.

I have both 32 & 64 bit Windows the biggest difference I see is the MEMORY controller. To play BF2 on the 32 bit machine I must start off with a fresh boot & reboot after play else the comp will chug. Win 64 does not slow down for me I can play multipal sessions of BF2 and other stuff without the need to reboot all the time. Win XP 32 has trouble with more than 2 gig ram, Win XP 64 uses Server 2003 64's memory controller and can handle upto 128 Gig.

Also on both settups I use an old SoundBlaster Live! sound card. On 32 bit set on MED EAX it will crash occasionally with the sound freakout & will crash allmost imidiatly on HIGH EAX. On 64 can run the same card on HIGH EAX no problem. BF2 has never ever crashed on my 64 bit .
