Hey guys, my family got a 50" widescreen projection LCD TV from Sony and I was wondering if its possible to use my PC's 7800GT's TV out or S-Video jack to send the signal to the TV. Will it look decent, and will the sound come through the TV's speakers if the video card is sending an Svideo signal?
I got my HD running on the TV, but on COD2 it ran on screen really small, on FEAR demo it ran huge and looked about as good as a monitor. What I can't figure out is how to get sound working.
You'll most likely need one of these and also a reciever to plug them into that your speakers come out of. If you're trying to use the television speakers, it really all depends on the tv's inputs on the rear. good luck
you should be able to get a decent output with a component lead or straight into the 9 pin d plug i dont think an s-vid lead will carry enough data for you.
off the top of my head i would config the secondary output of your card to the same format of the tv and start there.
a quick search found me This but i reccon youll probably be looking for the DVI to Component or even HDMI to DIV (which would be the best i think but that depends on if you have anything connected to the HDMI port on the tv)
Im about to do much the same thing with my panasonic 42" plasma (Gran Turismo 4 never looked so good as it does on the panny 42" with a component lead btw) but im after a wireless link to stream HD content aswell and thats looking a bit pricy atm and i cant seem to find a wireless connection cabaple of carrying the bulk of data required for 1080i content.
here is a link to avforums in the uk they have a lot of very 'in the know' people about who know the crack when it comes to pc to tv connections and all things HD.

Well, as I said, I got the High def. to work and it looked great. I also tried the Svideo and neither produced sound. I do have an auxiliary out to L/R speaker connections on recievers for when I ran my 15 speak surround sound. I guess I'll give that a try when I bring the PC back over there.
My card has the adapters. I used a Yellow/red/white cable set for a standard AV input from the 7800's HD outs to the TV's HD in's... no sound. Looked freaking great though.
1) make sure you're really plugging into an in. 2) make sure the hd sound out is really an out. There should be arrows on the plug if it's a multi. My x850xt pe comes with a four adapater plug that's for all bunch of video in and out and has arrows. Just suggestions and not meant to say you're stupid or anything. 3) make sure all your volumes are turned up. There's a couple things in Windows volume, then your audio drivers might have their own audio window that may disable/enable hd sound out) 4)make sure your sound card drivers are up to date to match the videocard.
Also, are your audio cables coming out of your videocard? Cause that doesn't make sense. Is there any bridging cables from your videocard to your motherboard/soundcard? It may ned to be moved from motherboard to soundcard, or turn off your motherboard sound all together, or moved vice versa. Good luck
All the corresponding jacks were inputed correctly, I triple checked that. I think I am going to try sending my sound card aux. out to the back of the TV. The TV has a Computer input like one for a monitor, and one for sound, but I don't think that will give me the HDTV capabilities.
But for those wishing to hook their PC to the TV, if it has HDTV it is insane how the quality is... almost better than a Computer monitor, and so huge!
Honestly, they aren't too much help, but there IS a fairly detailed HDTV guilde (just go to FAQ and type in HDTV). Nothing specific on sound as well. One review that I read said there are audio cables and it all seemed very simple. You probably have everything set up perfectly and it's just some silly thing you missed. Hope you figure it out. Are you planning on taking pics?
Yeah I am going to try the audio out thing. If I can get an internet connection in their living room I'll put on some BF2 and take a pic of me toob tubing someone on the big screen:p
