yeah uhhh.. i need some help with this. i keep getting booted from servers on bf2, and its not just some its all them. any1 i try to join i get the boot. at first i thought it was punkbuster not auto-updating so i manually updated it myself but that wasnt the problem. i know it has nothing to do with my isp cause i can play nba live and tiger woods online just fine. i am firewalled but but all my online games i play are exceptions. oh and i do have the lastest patch which is 1.12 i believe. any1 know what im doing wrong?

Try taking down your firewall.
BF2 is more sesitive to such things than the other games you've listed. -

yea i tried that but still same problem. i checked out the 'similar forums' below and there doesnt seem to be a solution in any of those. so i guess im SOL. man this really ****es me off. im just gonna have to take my aggression out on my old lady and run a train on that ass. that oughta take my mind off it for awhile.Comment

i have the issue as well, but more of I get in a server, start kicking butt, then I lose my connection. Only started happening recently...so...maybe the new patch or something.Comment

There's a bug in WinXP that causes queries against the CPU performance counters to be out of sync with each other when you have a multi-processor system, and your dual-core X2 counts as that. When BF2 tries to keep networking info in sync with the server, it's using those counters as timers, and when they're out of sync, the server drops you.

To easily test if the fix will work for you, start bf2, alt-tab out, start up the task manager (ctrl-shift-esc), right click on bf2.exe, and pick the "set affinity" option. Uncheck CPU1 (leave CPU0 checked). Now play for a while and see if the problem goes away. Basically, you're forcing the bf2.exe process to only run on one of your two cores.

Check that whole thread, but specifically that post by Boostland. It details a way to set up your shortcut to launch BF2 on only one core. I've used this for a few days with great success, but I decided to give the MS registry change a go, and I played for about 4.5 hours last night without a single drop. If it seems like that doesn't work, though, I'll go back to the processor affinity method.Comment

Make sure that you are not DLing and thing. If you Dled thing while you play Bf2 it will take up a alot of bandwith and cause you to get kicked out from the servers.Comment

I have better news.
I went to AMD's website and found a Windows XP driver for the X2 CPU. Once I installed that, all of my problems went away. I no longer have to adjust BF2 to run on a single core, it runs on either and it runs just fine. I believe the driver was at:
AMD Athlon X2 Drivers and Utilities
...and it's the "AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003."
I can count the number of times I've lost my connection on one hand since I did that, and it was a while ago.
