Help a n00b out!

OK I haved played online games before like CS:S and Halo and UT:2004 but never this one. I have the game but won't be able to play it because it's my "Christmas Present". Anyway I have never heard the terms bunny hopping or dolphin diving. In my small time here, I have found out that these things have caused so much hate! 1. What is bunny hopping and what is dolphin diving? 2. Is it a hack or something? 3. Is there an easy way to take out guys who use this technique?

I'm a total N00B lol. btw, I'm just trying to prepare myself in anyways possible so that I dont get like 1000 deaths and 3 kills and too many tks in the first week. It sounds stupid but being with some online expierence, knowing controls and what people mean by what they say, and knowing how to do stuff right might help me alittle bit. PLZ help me!

Bunnyhopping is where you hop like a bunny. As in constantly jumping so that people have a hard time hitting you while you try to kill them.

Dolphin-diving is the same but alternate jumping with going prone. You look a tiny bit like a dolphin when you do this and it's even harder to hit you.

Most players agree that both practices are pretty darn lame. There are a few servers that will ban you if you do it. The admins who boot people for this BS are my personal heros.

skitzo, judging from your list of past played titles, I think you're gonna be in for a bit of a suprise. BF2 isn't much like those games. On the surface, they all seem like straight forward shooters and a shooter is a shooter, right?

Er.. wrong.

BF2 is where teamwork matters. Where being a good player isn't nessasarily about hitting the top scores, but rather in being a good member of your team. It's a game where your brain is just as important as your gun. There's tons of different things you can do and actions you can take, but it takes awhile to figure out what you should be doing rather that what you can be doing.

Sure, you can play BF2 like any other run 'n gun game, but it you do you will be missing the point... and most of the fun!

Snoop through these forums for awhile. Most of everything you need to know is here. Don't be too put off by a few snarky people and comments. Some of us are grouchy types.

Bunny hopping is running around on the battlefield repeatedly pressing the jump button (default spacebar). While it is somewhat effective, it looks rather...um...stupid. However, the really good snipers will get bunny hoppers anyway.

No. It doesn't require any special software; just a button mashing personality.

3. Is there an easy way to take out guys who use this technique?

Grenades work, as do grenade launchers (but don't abuse these, that's called "n00b-tubing"). As previously stated, good snipers will hit bunny hoppers; mainly due to the fact that they tend to stand out like a <insert appropriate metaphor here>.

"n00bs" are idiots who don't go out of their way to seek advice from people who have played the game.

Okay, let's define some terms you may hear either in-game or here on the forums:

BF2 - Battlefield 2

EA - Electronic Arts, the company responsible for publishing BF2. Currently not popular with the BF2 community due to issues with the recently released expansion among others.

class - there are several different "classes" of soldier you can choose, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and weapons. They are: scout (sniper), assault, support (light machine gunner and replenishes ammunition), engineer (repairs vehicles among other things), medic (obvious), special forces (has remote charges), anti-tank (again, obvious).

Plane, tank, heli, etc. "whore" - this is someone who constantly hogs a vehicle through out a game; always attempting to TK anyone else who tries to use the vehicle. Learn from them and share the resources.

n00b-tubing - excessively using (or "spamming") the grenade launcher. Again, this isn't a hack, but it is bad manners.

unlock - as you gain ranks, you will be given to opportunity to "unlock" new weapons for each of the classes. These guns are sometimes referred to as "unlocks". On a side note: the sniper unlock (the M95) is generally unpopular because of the scope's crosshairs and the seeming lack of power it should have.

VoIP - Voice over IP. This is a system, usually found on a dedicated server, that many BF2 players use to talk to each other. The way it is implemented in the game is squad members can talk to each other and their squad leader, whereas the squad leader can communicate with the commander; thus establishing a chain-of-command of sorts.

Squads - There is an option where, once in game, you can join a squad consisting of anywhere between one to six people. The founder of the squad is the squad leader, and he is responsible for carrying out the orders of the commander. As a squad member, you can spawn on his position.

Commander - the commander is voted for by the players and has access to a special "command" screen, which is an overhead view of the current map. (found by pressing Caps Lock). He can give squads commands in terms of where to attack, where to defend, etc. He also has access to special abilities. He can Scan to reveal all enemies on the map (but only he can see them). He can place a UAV for a limited amount of time, revealing all enemies within the sensor range of the UAV. Finally, he can call in artillery strikes anywhere he wants. This last ability is somewhat controversial, as it has been abused in various ways.

AT - anti-tank class

BH - Blackhawk (a helicopter), some consider these to be "broken" or unbalanced in terms of the gameplay

MEC - the Middle East Coalition, one of the sides you can play as in the game

APC - Armored Personnel Carrier, a fast vehicle that can carry roughly four to five people in relative safety. Sometimes they are amphibious.

RIB - Rubber Inflatable Boat, a water transport found on some maps

Karkand - a very popular map, the proper name of which is "Strike at Karkand". The playable sides are the MEC and the United States. Reasons for its popularity vary, but it is generally because of the intense infantry-oriented urban combat.

AA - anti-air, there are two kinds. The one that is a vehicle and stationary platforms. These are generally considered underpowered by BF2 players (in terms of effectiveness and warhead strength).

"jeep jihad" or jihading" - this is a term that was used in the first of the Battlefield series, 1942. It is a tactic in which an engineer will load up a vehicle (generally a fast vehicle, like a jeep) with explosives, drive the vehicle into a group of enemies, and detonate the explosives. It varies in effectiveness, but don't bother using it in BF2. It's n00bish and wasteful.

CP - capture points, these are points on the map that look like flag poles and fly the flag of whatever side controls that point. The objective of BF2 gameplay is to capture all of these points on the map, or preventing your enemy from doing so. These points are captured by someone standing within a close proximity to the flag pole with no enemies within that same distance. A "neutral" capture point (represented by a white/gray stripped flag on the map) is one that is either being taken, or contains members from opposite teams within a short distance.

Arty - slang for artillery

SF - Special Forces, these letter generally refer to the expansion to BF2, called Battlefield 2: Special Forces. This expansion, recently released, has created mixed feelings within the BF2 community. It shipped with many bugs and is very demanding in terms of resources. On occasion this term ("SF") can also refer to the special forces class.

grappling hook - one of the new feature in the Special Forces expansion, it allows certain classes to scale static objects on a map.

zipline - another new feature of Special Forces, it looks like a crossbow and when shot to a location lower than where it was shot from, allows fast transit to that location.

NVG - Night vision goggles, new feature of Special Forces

F2000 - a Special Forces unlock for the assault class, very popular with the BF2 community for various reasons.

helo - slang for helicopter

HALO - High Altitude Low Opening, refers to bailing out of an aircraft at a high altitude and not opening the parachute (default "9" button) until the last possible moment. It is a tactic designed to minimize the amount of time being spent in the air floating (thus vulnerable).

SAS - Special Air Service, one of the new sides in the expansion Special Forces. It is British in origin; and the only thing it has to do with aircraft is jumping out of them or blowing them up.

flashbang - new feature from Special Forces, BF2 community has mixed feelings with it. While the flashbang does not harm, it does blind the affected player momentarily, stop the use of his map, and eliminate all sound. It affects vehicles as well, which is one of the reasons its critics dislike it.

C4 - the name of the special forces class's remotely detonated explosives

OTHER STUFF:

Red barrels are explosive when shot. Stay away from them and shoot them when the enemy is near them.

Bridges can be blown up with C4 and engineers can repair them.

The shift button causes you to sprint, but drains your stamina bar.

Non-VoIP communication is accomplished by the command-rose. The "Q" button is the default. To use it, hold down "Q" and move your mouse to highlight the command or phrase you wish to give. The middle command, "Spot" will, if the button is pressed while tracking a target, "spot" the enemy (causing him to appear on the map for a short period of time).

well that sucks you have to waits till Christmas:P but yea bunny hopping is whn guys jump in a heli and go around from flag to flaf really quickly ,and i m not sure what the other one is so i hope i helped you.
