Lets compair the ATI X1800 512 vs. The Nvidia 7800GTX 512.

The X1800 was betterin areas I here, but nvidia is dedicted BF2 video card maker, so I will go with the 7800gtx.

7800gtx is better in general (maximum pc toture tested them both and 7800 gtx came out a few points ahead)

nVidia series of cards are better than ATi especially in games such as Battlefield 2. NVIDIA had a major deal with EA developing this game and is basically tailored towards nVidia cards. Benchmarks atm suggest ATi are competitive, well thats because they were comparing an ATi 512MB X1800 against an nVidia 256MB 7800GTX. Obviously ATi did considerably better but not a great deal, perhaps a few extra frames (7fps extra).

ATi have been loosing the plot recently after having a very disappointing Cross fire brand which they haven't nailed down, i.e. has basically flopped and SLi have dominated this area. ATi spec of X1800 is not impressive either and as the infamous Hercules brand of ATi cards have gone, nobody has picked up the pieces here. You might say HIS Digital are GREAT, but no they are too rubbish. From having firm knowledge in this area I can honestly say ATi are crumbling and nVidia is the way to go.

The card to look out for now is the BFG 512MB 7800GTX XXX Edition which is truely godlike.

You can go to whatever website to find benchmarks, I have seen multiple results and nVidia truely out do them.

Not voting since I haven't really looked at these cards yet but I've generally had more problems with ATI than nVidia and nVidia tends to perform better for the games I want to play even when it loses overall.

Which ever one is more affordable and offers the best performance for the dollar. heh I like both companies

It's a horse-a-piece. They are always trying to out-do each other, so one will always have a small edge over the other for a short period of time or a little more, generally speaking. And this competition is a good thing, it keeps them trying to make big improvements on the cards instead of charging you high prices for **** that is just a small improvement.

Both of them update their drivers frequently, ATI at first glance appears to do it more frequently, but really about the same. Nvidia appears to not have drivers as often, but they actually do if you download their beta drivers that are available on their site.
