Practice Flying tips?

I use the keyboard and mouse. I just had a few question for those crazy flyers out there.
1. What are some speed tips. Most of the time I just have my finger on the throttle button .

2. Evasive manuvers? The moment I take off, I'm locked on and dead most of the time, without ever knowing where or who killed me.

that's prolly from the rocket launchers you can sit in from the ground - they lock right on to ya. I heard the mouse is best for stuff like barrel rolls an quick evades. I suck at flying and myself am learning

dont use keyboard and mouse, use keyboard and keyboard. the arrows are for roll left rool right, nose down and nose up. its exact same thing as a joystick for movement, but the fire buttons are different.

Ok heres some useful tips :p (rocket launchers dont beep in jets and keyboard control wont get you anywhere)

most of the time you just need to keep your finger on the W button for speed, use afterburner often too (unless you are in american jets which have pathedic AB duration), anyway, generally full speed is good for 95% of the time

Generally you never need to slow down, (anyone who does such as hover in JSF or slow down to aim cant fly well anyway), if you must slow down in a dog fight when the person you are chasing slows down, you just need to hold the S key

Another tip, when you are slowing down, such as during reloading on short runways, the fastest way to slow down is hold S key with a strafe key (A or D), when you press bth at the same time it slows down immediately, where if you just hold S it takes a while for it to respond.

good maneuvers are hard to come by, and most of the good ones, people keep to themselves. and, alot of the advice on these boards, is pretty ****in horrid when it comes to dogfighting.

Well, I'd honestly suggest joystick. But without a joystick you can still be a competent pilot. Just dont expect do any good aerobatics like joystick users.

Keep the speed up. It's what keeps you alive. When you're dogfighting though, slacken off a bit to keep the enemy in front of you. However if he hits his AB, use yours. Dont overshoot. Also, something I've noticed is that if I use AB on a turn I can turn sharper, but this may just be something I'm perceiving than an actual maneuverability gain.
Oh, and the biggest thing is, bind a key to switch between nosecam and rear view. Most newbie pilots dont check their 6, and veteran pilots prefer to use their cannons in bomb mode for a surprise attack and hit with unlocked missiles from point blank for an instant kill. If you're being chased, use rear cam to see where the enemy is coming from. When in doubt though, hit your AB and get out of dodge city.

If you really want to kill them in a humiliating way, take it down to the deck and outfly him, make him crash into something. You wont get the kill but it sure is funny.

Never use missiles. Practice with the guns and bombs and you will be unstoppable. THe element of suprise is a pilot's greatest tool in BF2.

I wouldnt say never use missiles. Just dont rely on them. Your major damage will be with the cannon. Any rocket shots are to be done only if someone is dumb enough to present themselves as an easy target. My personal favorite is to lock onto them, follow them through frantic maneuvers without firing. Eventually they either think I'm out of missiles or that I'm a ground target and cease doing evasive maneuvers, and then I launch a missile barrage that takes them down.

Yup I dont use missiles unless the opposite pilot is a total noob.
A good tip is to always fly in bombing mode.
As far as evasion, if you're against a pilot with a joystick, you probably wont stand a chance. Just try to do random stunts, or keep doing loops until he gets bored and flys away or something. If you're USMC on a carrier map, its a good idea to fly to your carrier to someone on the carrier deck can get into the AA gun and help you out

another little tip, is if you slow right down if you spot a helo and come in on a gunning run, it doesnt stand a chance.
