How do I setup joystick for BF2?

Joystick doesnt want to run at game start up? USB connection......cant seem to find it in game controls...I want to use with planes ......any help?

Ok, this may sound basic but have you tried simply doing the following?

Check to ensure your joystick is listed in the Game Controllers control panel in Windows (Start->Control Panel->Game Controllers)

If it is, then it will work.

Then load up BF2 and hit Options, then Controls, then choose the Helicopter tab (for example).

Click in the box in one of the 2 columns beside the action you want to bind, then click your joystick button.

Hit Apply.
