Please help, bf2 sf, running like crap

Please help, i know a little about computers and tried everything but special forces is running like crap. I am getting sever lag and jerky issues, and the game just crashing, also on night maps a get green splotches in the distance. BF2 ran great no probs, on all med settings. Here my specs:
    AMD XP 2800
    1gb ram
    6600gt vid
    cable connection
First i installed SF's, then could not join any servers even though i patched 1.12. EA's support said to uninstall SF's and BF2, and reinstall all again. I uninstalled, defraged my comp and reinstalled all with the 1.12 patch. Nnow i could finally get on a server, but it was completly unplayable. I turned all vid settings to low, and it still ran like crap. I then cleaned all my registry's, used coolbits to overclock my vid card, all to no avail. i am not triying to get the game to look amazing, i just want it to look descent and be playable. I have been trying to tweak everything i could think of, please if anyone has any ideas please let me know, before i throw the whole frickin game away.

your definately not the only one here, even with an AMD xp3000+, 2gb DDR3200, ati X800XL 256mb audigy 2 with EVERYTHING at low, I barely squeeze 25pfs from some maps. I used to be able to run all med/high before the 1.12 patch. God I am soooooo mad, I REALLY hope they plan to fix this....and if someone comes on here saying THEY dont have a problem, well post your specs or may lightening strike you dead on the spot

Please no more "everything runs great" posts . Unless your being paied by EA there is no reason to say it runs great on your system, when we all know it ain't happenin.

I too get pi**ed when guys with LOW end systems
say they run all on HIGH and get "butter"

          BUT
after reading all these SF FPS issues

1 & 2 are identical except for #2 has better graphics and sound card

          both P4 3.2 / 1.5Gb ram
          no tweaking
          50fps on #1 and 90fps on #2
          #2 has ATI x800XLpcie

#1 LOW on all things but geometry

Re: Please help, bf2 sf, running like crap

How are you lucky if you're running everything on low? I can get 150fps probably if I set everything to low (don't plan to test it out because reoptimizing twice would take half an hour to get back). Since the 1.12 patch I run at 1280x1024 and either 4xAA or 6xAA (bf2 and sf respectively). Literally the day before Special Forces came out, I had reached a plateau with my computer. I was running a bot mod and a map mod, which let me put over a hundred bots on a 64 player map. I was running at 1600x1200 with all high and 6xAA. The game was BEAUTIFUL and running well above 30fps at it's lowest (not bad for over a hundred bots and full map spread).

I was really stoked about Special Forces. I only learned about it a week or so before it came out becasue I came to BF2 pretty late and spent most of my time trying to get my newly built computer running top notch. I brought it home and unfortunately I didn't get to play it that night because I work early mornings (3am-ish) and running two patches took over an hour.

The next day, and the following week up to this very moment, I've been battleing for a decent framerate in both games. I've optimized the hell out of my computer, slashed Windows down to the bare necessities, and still my framerate hovers around 30-40fps unless I cut back on the AA.

The picture looks great at 1280x1024 but there's nothing like playing a 3D world like Halflife2 or Battlefield2 in 1600x1200. It brings out the depth and you can almost feel the morning dew in the grass kicking up as you run into battle. An almost zenlike gaming experience totally ruined by stuttering and lags.

Mostly I hate the fact that I seem to pay attention more to what my fps count is during intense battle than enjoying the gameplay. Most of the people complaining about the game(s) have crappy computers or don't know what they're doing. Granted, you shouldn't have to be a rocket scientist to play a pc game, but not just anyone who lays a couple dimes on a game should get 100% graphical intensity without a little work.

But a proper patch followup and maybe the next drivers to be releasted by Nvidia and ATI can level the experience back into the realm of possability.

That said, there's no amount of optimizing that can make your computer do more than it's capable of. And although I'd love to be able to play every game on high on my current hardware for a year or more coming, I'd also be equally as p'd off if I had a much better computer and wasn't getting some extra bang for my buck.

*edit: I actually have yet to play BF2 post 1.12 and Special Forces on the exact setup in my sig. My 10k rpm Raptor drive crapped out when I did a reinstall and is being replaced. I should be reformatting back to my sig rig within a week or so, and then I can see if that helps Special Forces out at all. If nothing else, it'll speed up load times significantely so testing different settings will be less of a hassle. (for those who don't know what I'm talking about, a Raptor SATA drive runs at 10,000rpm compared to 7,200 of a standard drive, and has a faster seek speed. I've also started playing with the idea of a 15,000rpm with an even faster seek...)

Re: Please help, bf2 sf, running like crap

Anyone know a good program to test FPS?

I've said this in other threads and again here, my system ain't what you would call shabby and I get tons of tearing and lag in BF2 so I want to know just what I am getting for FPS.

It helps a lil to set my CPU affinity to one CPU but still, not enough. I ven have my 6800GT's OC'd to 400/1100 ans my opty's OC'd to 2ghz which should be FINE to run BF2. Hell, not OC'd should be fine. There is no way that it's my hardware I am convinced - has to be the game itself. Eventually I will upgrade my CPU's to the 252's and my GPU to the new 512mb card...but more for rendering in 3ds max, for I sincerely doubt you will see an increase in BF2 until they fix that POS :)

you have a sli setup and regularly overclock your rig and you don't know how to test your fps? Anyway... ~ key then type in renderer.drawFps 1 the "F" must be capitalized and there is a space before the one. Or, get FRAPPS. DUrrrrr

Just because someone has SLI and OC's doesn't mean they are magically endowed with the knowledge of how to test FPS lol! I never tried it before and never really cared honestly; but now with the BF2 tearing I am interested in seeing what the results are. Thank you for the info :)

I was partly playing but I have this fear now that you just have tons of money and bought the most expensive computer you could get, but have no idea how to use it. I mean... why would you get two videocards if you didn't care about fps? Certinally there isn't a single game that takes advantage of SLI/Crossfire yet, let alone pci-e, let alone 4gig of memory (btw is your 4gigs running at 3200 speed? You might want to check your manual because I'm having a hard time finding a good motherboard that is overall kick@ss plus able to run 4gb of ram at full speed. Anyway, good luck and enjoy your rig. And get to know your computer! =P

I'm just jealous. Don't even listen to me...

Re: Please help, bf2 sf, running like crap

You can add me to the list of unhappy BF2SF player. My video sux and it is getting OLD. I was somewhat relieved when i read on EA sites that they are aware of it. From EA "We wanted to let you know that we're already hard at work on a post 1.12 update. While we can't go into details about it, yet, rest assured that we're checking the forums, listening to our customer support teams and working hard on the features that YOU'VE asked for. As soon as we can give more concrete details, we will. Just know that we're all 100% into making Battlefield 2 the very best that it can be."

Details?? at least admit that there are video performance issues...

All I have to say is HURRY UP!

IT just ****es me off that between the BF2, BF2 sf, a new vid card and doubling my ram $400 all for one game, i get a laggy jumpy unplayable piece garbage, that one week ago ran great. And dont forget i had to reinstall all of it twice w/ patches, that was a fun 6 hrs. What is the problem with the 1.12 patch?????

Dude, trust me I am broke and worked very hard for thissystem. I also did all my research before hand.FPS is not the only reason people get SLI. I got them A)because I want to most performance I could get with my finances and B) I am also a graphic artist and certain programs like 3ds Max take advantage of 2 video cards C) I like to game D) Did you look up my mobo?! lol. It's a beast.

Yes my RAM is running at 3200 speeed. NUMA actually. My mobo supports up to 16gb.

lol, thanks again for the info man, much appreciated.
