Today i was just so bored at school, i decided to write up something. So i wrote a BF2 story. Yeah, sad isnt it? Ahh well hope you enjoy it..
I type in my nickname and password into the textboxes with practiced ease. Seconds later I survey the progress I made towards my next rank. Not bad, I think to myself, I did quite well yesterday.
I open up my ‘favourites’ window and quickly scan the screen. Good, ‘Strike at Karkand’ is up. After waiting for what seems like an eternity, I am finally greeted by familiar sounds.
“We’re losing this battle. Start fighting or I’ll find someone who can.” Ahhh, a gamer’s life…
Now I am confronted with an all too familiar choice; what kit to choose from the selection of seven? Never mind for now, first take a look at the squad-screen. Aha, a four-man squad. One click later, there are five. They could use some anti-tank support, I think. The choice is now made easy. Moments later, I am in the middle of the battle. And just as soon I am cut down. I had spawned on my squad leader seconds before he decided to let himself be blown to bits by a tank, taking me with him. Alright, I’ll spawn at home then, I think.
I am now once again moving out along with other Marines, my trusty anti-tank SRAW shouldered at the ready. Afterall, that tank was still out there and I wanted vengeance.
It wasn’t hard to find for all the noise it made. Its cannon could be heard far and wide as could its noisy engine. Slowly, carefully, I poke my head around a buildings corner. Found it, among a good dozen American bodies and kit bags. With one fluid movement of my virtual self, the tank is dead-center on my screen. One click and the rocket is off. It thuds into the rear part of the tanks left tracks. Experience tells me it has a third of its total armor left. I quickly duck away from the corner. The tank’s driver could easily followthe trail of smoke my rocket had left to the building’s corner behind which I had been hiding. No sooner am I a safe few meters away from it as a tank shell strikes the ground by the corner. Shooting and hitting enemies is one thing, playing well another.
After having taken out another SRAW, I draw my primary gun. In real life, I could have felt the weapon’s comfortable weight in my hands. However, the sight of the DAO-12 in my virtual hands is comfort enough.
I sprint across one of the many streets of Karkand, dodging both enemy and friendly bullets. My squad leader and two –members are just around the corner.
“I’ll be with you in sec, squad”, I say into my microphone. I round the corner and find myself now in the company of a Medic, a Spec Ops soldier as well as a Support soldier and his PKM light machine gun.
“Where are we going, squad leader?” I ask of the Medic. No reply. We are moving along in the shadows of Middle Eastern buildings, a river to our right. The occasional MEC soldier crosses our path, only to be quickly ‘taken care of’. As I walk at the front of our group, I receive a message, then another two. ‘You are now the new squad leader of your squad’ announces the last one. Alright, the old one was a sod, anyway.
“Okay, here’s the deal squad. Our teams not doing too well as you can see and we gotta change that. Let’s give our guys a chance.” I receive three ‘affirmatives’. “Alright, follow me, we’ll try to take the control point at the bridge.”
Seeing that I am squad leader, I memorise the names of names of my inferiors. There’s Merk Frankie (support), SlaneBow (medic) and Toxic (Spec Ops). Only Frankie and Toxic are with me at the moment.
“Hey, Slane, care to join us? We could use a medic where we’re headed…”
“Sure thing, boss.”
Not much later, a marine comes running out of an alley, a medic-bag in hand - SlaneBow.
We arrive at the train accident. Until now we had only encountered light resistance, but now we had to deal with MEC by the squad-load.
“Gimme a base of fire, Frankie. Take up position by that train car to your right. Slane, I suggest you leave a couple of medic bags with him.”
“Roger that”, came Frankie’s reply.
“Frankie, spot us any vehicles coming. And Toxic, please plant some C4 in the river passage so they jump us from behind.”
“Consider it done.”
“Off we go!”
Bullets are spraying around us yet we can’t see the enemy. Thank God there’s no armor, at least. Found one; hiding between the railroad-tracks under a train car is a sniper. My fingers fly across the keyboard, my mouse and hand zoom across the pad. I react nearly mechanically. He’s too far away for my DAO-12 so I whip out my SRAW. Good thing for me he’s prone and under the car, bad for him. I bring up my sights, take aim and fire. The sniper has no chance. I took some damage, mostly to the fact that I was stationary firing my rocket, and not to the enemies accuracy. Gotta keep moving. We are closing in on the flag now.
Frankie’s doing a great job keeping the enemy pinned down with suppressive fire from his LMG. Good work, I am thinking, I’ll congratulate him later. Another two enemies hit the ground lifelessly, bullets from my DAO having found their targets.
“Medic!” The automated death-scream of a marine cuts through the sounds of battle. A glance at the top left of my screen and I find out it’s Toxic who’s down. Damn.
“Quickly, Slane, get to him!”
Fortunately, SlaneBow is already lying next to Toxic’s body, reviving him. An instant later, both are up and running again, their rifles adding to the orchestra of gunfire. Damnit, if we don’t hurry up, we’ll have them all spawn on top of us.
“C’mon lets finish this!”
A last MEC soldier attempts to reach the recently spawned Vodnik vehicle. I quickly fire another rocket which strikes the transport vehicle in the left flank. It goes up in flames, exploding an instant later, killing the nearby MEC.
“We got armor incoming! They’re comin through the river!”
“Alright, Frankie, get outta there.”
“You don’t need to tell me twice”, he snaps back. I glance back to see him sprinting across the street, running for the safety of the alleyways. Instants before reaching them, however, his body is picked up by a burst of machine gun fire.
“Damn, Frankie got wasted. Toxic, hit them with the C4!”
Toxic takes out his detonator and jams down on the button. In response, a massive explosion can be heard from the river passage. The bombing is successful, three of them down. APC, I think. We are about to start cheering when suddenly a T-90 battle tank bursts from the smoke of the explosion.
In the corner of my eye, I mean screen, I see Slane sprinting towards the TOW ground defence missile. I whip out my SRAW and fire at the tank, not taking the time to use the sights. I hit the front – not good enough. The tank is now using smoke to conceal its movement, making it impossible for me to get in another good shot. Slane fires the TOW into the smoke and a dull thud tells us his missile found its target. Another thud follows, then an explosion. Then a large bulky something rolls out of the smoke. I am about to fire another rocket, when I identify the ‘something’ as a friendly Abrams M16A2 tank. Meanwhile, Frankie has re-spawned next to me. I radio out a quick ‘thank you’ meant for the tank and gather up my squad.
