Aircraft Carrier Map

Hello all,

Im planning on buying BF2 as soon as I buy my new PC at the end of Jan and recently watched the video review of SF on Gamespot. I saw a quick clip of the map in SF where you attack the enemy's aircraft carrier, this map is what most appeals to me about special forces, would someone please be able to post screenshots, timelimit, anything possible about this map because this is the one that would decide on if I pick up SF or not as I love the idea of going into the carrier deck by deck and taking it over, and if someone is feeling very giving could they consider putting up a low quality mpg or something showing them playing it (my current PC is too slow to handle big resolutions on video or .wmv)

It rocks, you have to lausy computers, its quite som lagging, but its awesome CQC inside the carrier

Ya know... Iron Gator is about the only SF map I haven't managed to play on yet. I think.

It's a good one as are all of the other maps. Lots of detail and special features.

dude trust me... you should be looking forward to this map, it's one of the better ones of the bunch.

LOL. Have you actually played it? Easily the worst map of the lot. The only one close is Devil's Perch. There is usually a few things that can happen:

1) USMC keep the MEC on the shore for the entire map. Since there is only 2 ways onto the boat people camping the top deck with the AT and Supprt kits, so you usually sink before you get to the dockwell, and even if you do, you get people camping the dockwell with MG's and Anti-Tank and you never even make it up a ladder, and then you can't take a helo, because the CIWS locks onto you once you get near it, and you can only take 5 people, compared to half the other team.

2) The MEC manage to take a flag, and often control the "lower deck", but since there is only 2 or 3 ways up to the deck, you'll find they are camped by about 10 guys each, and the helo is usually pwning you.

Generally, the only people getting kills on MEC are the guys in the HIND (if they can fly) rocketing and strafing the top deck and killing 4 or 5 guys each pass.

3) You get a fight in the lower deck, but it's so laggy you can't shoot properly.

I wouldn't recommand something I hadn't played. I'm not one of the peeps that write "rave reviews" of a game on Amazon 2 months before it comes out...


In actuality, I only like to play MEC on this map. I like the challenge of storming the carrier, and I'd say that of all the times I've played it, I've generally won with the MEC team. Yes, I was in squads when this happened, and yes, we pwned the US.

I'll await the inevitable "then the guys you were up against were dumb" line, as... well, it's almost inevitable.

This has some truth to it, however.

I've heard that this map is much better when played with lower numbers. 32 players max.

In honesty, I've not played this at > 32 players. MackTheKnifeAU correctly pointed out that it can get a bit choppy within the lower decks (I'm assuming they didn't bother optimising their 3D engine for interiors). So I can imagine that with 64 players, this level could get even more chuggy.

Never played with 64 - played with 32 player only - 64 player map, but only 32 players. LOVE THE MAP.

No chop for me - but I run on all low settings.

I have played it as mostly MEC - and I have yet to lose on this map - look at my scores: http://bf2s.com/player/45826851/

I am not saying I am the best - just saying the MEC can and does win. We have shut the US out of bases a bunch of times.

The map is awesome - MEC face almost impossible odds which makes it so damn good.

I have never seen the MEC get slaughtered, if they lost it was only by a couple pts.

I hate that so many people dog this map - I love it.

Tell ya what man you right, this map is one hell of a F'n battle to take tha carrier back. I racked up 25 Sniper kills just trying to keep the Allies at bay so my team can overun the top of the carrier. On top of that you got 2 helo's doing battle above you trying to kill you as well. very intense. A good american team can win but a better mec team can over run that ship with no issue's.

IMO the map is really fun, a little imbalanced for the MEC and it can get very laggy at times but its still fun.

hated this map at 1st, cos it's so easy to get lost, but once you learn the layout u can get to every flag very easily and quickly. Its worth spending 1/2 hr in single player to learn it otherwise the first load of games you're gonna get very confused and die alot.
I don't really get any chopiness in game and i pretty much only play 64 player servers, but I have put my gfx setting at a happy medium for all maps. I'd rather gameplay over graphic detail.
Night maps tho, if your gonna get the game, let it down, they're a bit of a novelty, fun to start with but as you play them more you begin to realise how good the day maps/gameplay are. That's only my opinion tho.
I think SF is definately an improvement in-game.

I don't think Iron Gator is available as a single player game.

I think you have to start a local Multi player game. Then you have no-one to shoot at, but you can run round the ship to your hearts content.
