Nickname Change

I know this same old yadayadayada but is there a chance that dice/EA will enable us to change our nicknames?

I messed up when I made mine and would like to change it. I messed up even more by not simply signing up for a new account switching to another name, procrastinating so that I now have 32,000 points on the nickname I don't like.

(I admit fully to my dumbass mistakes and I'll properly take my lashes)

I'm about to join a clan and I'm considering starting a new account, changing to a nickname I like and that I've used on other online games for 5 years, but in the process throwing away all the stats awards I've earned with my first account. I'm wondering if anybody knows if it's possible for EA/Dice to give us this ability, or do I have to bite the bullet.

I very much doubt that we will ever see the ability to change account names.

You cannot change your name, nor will you likely ever be able to. This would be at the bottom of GameSpy's or EA's list, if it's on it at all.

It's just a name..keep it.

really seems like an easy update to a database...but whatever EA. Just needs to be a unique name...and for banlists and what not, this should be based on the playerID anyway. So it should be A-OK for someone to change names...

Banlists have nothing to do with your nickname. There's an id key that is used instead. If you have a Server Console, check out your ban list. All that's there is a set of numbers, no names.

I am one of those affected by a pre-existing Gamespy account. I created this name when I started playing Halo online through Gamespy. This was a name that was never visible to the outside world and once connected, I was going by my Halo in-game name, Xanthias. Once I got BF2, I was mortified that I couldn't change it. Now, I'm stuck with it.

i doubt that EA is going to let us change our names, if they do then i think everybody will and everything will get messed up.

Although it would be cool if they did let us change our names.

The chances of this are about the same as:

a) A fat kid letting go of a ho-ho
b) A stripper actually finishing college with the money she earns
c) A microbrew leaving my house in tact
d) Winning the powerball lottery

I know you can edit My Documents > Battlefield 2 > profiles > 0001 > profile (open with notepad) change upper to lower case, and it will reflect in the game, and login, but it does not change the actual account name. I have only tried it using the same name, just changing the upper case to lower. I was going to try tonight to see if I can fully edit it, but if you like, give it a try.

But yeah, sometimes I want to change my name b/c SeanKnight is kinda bland, you need something fun, like Uber-Goober, sometimes.

Ok tried it, problem...your account password is tied to that name, not game key (or maybe both, but name is the firstline of defense), So when you rewrite it in the profile, it returns an invalid password when you log on. Probably some way around it, but I am too lazy to figure it out. Just start a new account.
