    M95 Rant

The M95 may be one of most useless unlocks in the game. Here is what I gather from my experience:

The bolt action M95 is not a one shot chest kill. It takes two shots to kill, unless it is a headshot. The bolt action M24 is also two shots. The semi-auto SVD is about three shots, but remember it is semi-auto. All sniper rifles are instant kill when it is a head shot. So M95 loses in the damage department.

I personally don't like SVD scope, as it blocks a lot of what is below the crosshair. However, it doesn't hinder me from hitting what I want, just reduces my vision (scanning in scope). The M95 on the other hand, has by far the worse scope of them all. Two thick lines intersect in the middle, blocking nearly as much below the crosshair as the SVD. However, it also blocks top, left and right. The best crosshair IMO is the M24, with two thin lines that block very little.

Why are crosshairs important you ask? At long distances, the less obtrusive the crosshair is, the better the aim. At nearly max range, enemies become around 5 pixels wide or less. When you have a huge M95 cross hair taking up 3 or more pixels, how do you expect any accuracy? When on a flat surface, targets can basically strife left-right and never get hit, because the lines block that vision completely. The SVD does not fair too well in this department either, as its a bit harder to scan while scoped. Again, M24 wins with it's thin crosshairs, allowing you freedom to scan in scope (important at long range, less important and dangerous close). So M95 loses in the aiming department.

So what does M95 excel at? Nothing from what I can see. It claims to be able to shoot through glass of cockpits and armor, which I have tested to be true. But how often do you get a CLOSE range, immobile vehicle for you to have target practice on? Long range is nearly out of the question with tme M95's huge crosshair.

Personally, at long (especially max) ranges the sniper rifle of choice is the M24. Dead on accuracy with every shot. Headshots are nearly easy enough to call cheating. Moving targets are only semi-difficult with such a small crosshair. At moderate to close range, SVD and it's equivalents are the best. Miss a shot? Shoot again. If all else fails, or desperation, spam shots. Great for up-in-your-face action.

Where does the M95 fit, nowhere. Unless you want to camp a spawn, and killing the same guy who gets into the same vehicle every time. Funny, but ultimately boring and lame. It is neither good at long range (big cross hair) or at moderate range (bolt action), not to mention the damage sucks (more than other rifles, in the end it still needs two shots to kill). Damn, I wasted a unlock. At least it looks cool.

I could have told you all that. How did you not get to try one before unlocking it? The sniper is one of my favourite kits but there is no way I'm going to use an unlock on the M95. The main reason I can see for it is that you are more likely to end up with a kill or a damage assist in fights involving multiple people compared to the semi-auto rifles. But as a solo sniper it is at best on par with the SVD.

I like it, taking out pilots in the Cobra at the TV station from the construction site before they can even get the helo off the pad rocks, and can give your team the edge from the get go.

Nice tip, Auto. But most likely I'll forget about it before I get home from work to try it out. I do that a lot with great tips.

I agree, the m95 i think is better than the svd and the chinese one but the m24 is the best.

Hmm, I understand your frustration. I like it, have gotten me like 400 out of about 600 sniper kills with it:)

The kind of weapon that 'doesn't like me' is basically any shotgun out there:hmm:

I ashamed to say that the only time I've used the M95 to its abilities was to teamkill some moron who repeatedly stood in front of me as I took off on Wake Island - I put a 50cal round right through the cockpit and took my jet back lol.

And I agree with everything you say, the M95 is a joke, Dice bit too hard on the rock-paper-scissors ******** and nerfed the M95 just so there wasn't an uber 1 shot 1 kill gun - which is what the damn M95 is in real life. It's a ****ing joke that they didn't make it 1S1K, the M95 literally blows people to pieces in real life and yet I can shoot someone point blank in the chest and they can still turn and kill me with an M203 round 5 ft away in this game...

Being a noob, I saw the damage labeled as "very high". And at that time, I wasn't very good with the sniper at all. So I was blaming mainly myself for missing so many shots with it (even before I unlocked it). Never did I realize that it was the gun that sucked .

Yeah, I found that the construction site, especially the big beam-bridge thing is one of the most important and rich sniper spots in the game. You cover basically three entire flags, the TV station, the construction site, and the often hard fought site next to it (the wall, forgot what it was called).

If people start to find out where you are (watch for them in the crane! Some guy killed me 5 times before I realized), there is another spot which covers only two flags, but gives you nearly an invulnerable position if you use your claymores. And 99% of the people will never find you. Good time to be squal leader =).

It's worth noting that it's armour penatration value counts against personal body armor as well as vehicle glass and fences.

I've got a buddy who's a damn fine sniper (I, personally SUCK at it) and I've seen him kill people through fences on Kark, take out Blackhawks on Mash, and he's got a heck of a kill record against transport drivers.

Actually once, I shot a gunner in an attack heli from the ground when he was in the air, what a shot he must have been damaged before as I got the kill, he thought I was cheating lol.

I would like to see the M95 be a one-shot kill weapon and also show some kind of indication if it was used to take out someone behind armored glass (ie. maybe a bullet hole in the glass while the corpse is still there).

Otherwise, if they want to keep the damage the same, make it so it knocks an opponent down and stuns them.

And if the M95 was a one shot one kill, all of you would be complaining about it - just like the AWP in CS.

If you actually score a shot in the head hit box, it is a one shot one kill. I have hit a few helo pilots as the blades started turning and a couple pilots waiting in the hanger with one shot, but apparently, the hitbox is small because most of the time it ends up being two shots.

Though honestly, I have seen a .50 cal round strike someone in the chest, doesn't matter in RL if you have body armor on or not, it is going to blow your chest threw your back.
