    Nice game as commander...

I was playing in Strike at Karkland (64) as MEC today and after some time I noticed my team was losing tickets and the US was 50 points ahead or something...
and... what the hell, we had no commander!
So I applied and and became teh commander =]

We lost a lot of bases, and they were almost getting the Factory...
I told my team to follow my strategy: If we lose the Factory the arty, UAV, everything would be gone..

I asked my team to get the 3 bases near the factory back. To the hell with the rest...
Actually I forced them to do so, by setting UAV , sending supplies, etc. only to help them get these CPs.

    After succeeding, I blew up the bridge , knowing the US team would be there trying to pass. I asked my team just to hold and kill them;
we were in advantage since our APCs and tanks were nearby... And the best; that CP leaves them too open to artillery strikes!
Each arty strike killed 6 or more of them... While this was happening the other commander was driving his tank!

    We won...

MORAL: A good commander can make the difference! Apply!

Good illustration of a very important point: good commanders + holding strategic positions = almost always win

Yeah on Karkand (64 people), you can blow the bridge and guard the water crossing for vehicles and basically keep 3 flags safe single handedly. If you have another 1-2 guys helping you defend the right bank of the river, you can easily hold that side of the river, use APCs to shoot across and just spend time putting up UAVs and Arty for your team.

    Well done!

Ehh true I suppose... But once I was on a 32 player Karkand.

I was commander of the MEC and, yes no humbleness from me, I know what the **** I'm doin...

Anyways, we held ALL points for the entire game. We did outstanding. But then I realized something: WE WEREN'T WINNING! The only reason that we were losing was because the USMC had more kills than us. Not really that many, but enough I suppose.

But I mean, come ON! We held EVERY SINGLE CP for the entire 200 ticket round, and we lost 0-10??? WTF IS UP WITH THAT!

Yeah, your teams' ticket loss are equal to your teams' deaths. So, in theory (or as you showed), you can hold 9/10 spawns the whole map but still lose. Not exactly fair but that's how EA does it.

But, that's also why the UAV is the most important feature in the game... it points out the enemies for your entire team to do more killing (and lower the other teams' tickets). Arty no longer counts as deaths and no one else can see the satelite scan.

To all commanders who want to win games: Keep that UAV up at all times!

Yeah, I love commanding. It really is majorly important for a game. Also if you have a decent tank driver that supports the troops working with you it is really difficult not to win:)...now if only my mic wasn't broken...

If only I had a higher rank so I could command more...:hmm:

Here's my higherst round score(144), as commander too woohoo!!(and it aint no BH whoring pre1.3 score either:p )

Happened last night on a karkand server to me too. No commander, we were down by about 50 tickets. . .commander jumps in. . .doesn't even give many orders (I was a SL) but he kept spotting enemies and giving supplies and UAVs. We ended up winning by about 20 tickets. It was freakin sweet.

Heh heh, commander mode is fun yet stressful at the same time.

Semi on-topic: I finally got the Expert Command Ribbon! w00t w00t!

Wow with 50 points left and you did all that ?
                Nice.

I play commander and Im quite good at it, its pretty easy. Constant Uav's, supplies, spotting ect.. Just leave the rest up to your team.

When you spot, are you just spotting the red blurs from the scan or do you zoom in and see what is actually there? That takes more time but that is how I have done it the few times I've commanded. Actually I'm not sure you can spot the red blurs.

                    Jimmynoobtron,

You can do both. Right click and spot. Whatever the red spot is (tank, infantry, APC) it will be called out to your team.

The satellite scan is the only picture you get of the entire battlefield. What you should focus on when you scan is trying to figure out the enemy's strategy. If on Sharqi for example, do you see enemy target approaching the TV station from the north beach? Do you see RIBs attacking the Hotel base? Where is the enemy concentrated? What enemy bases are abandoned/minimally defended? From the satellite snapshot, you can decide where you need the UAV, where to arty, what bases to attack, etc. Get this clear in your mind first and then use the remaining seconds to spot enemy targets THAT ARE CLOSE TO YOUR TROOPS. Don't bother spotting targets on the map that won't show up on anyone's mini-map.

A good comander always leads the team to a victory. A good comander doesnt screw around while doing their job.

A Bad commander screws around, and doesnt so crap when they are the commander.

I almost never issue orders, but I try to lead the team in the direction, but then again, I play with clan mates a lot, so we are fairly intuitive.

If there is something I need I use VoIP and tell a SL to get there, it communicates what you need better, and it's hard to get guys to leave the frontlines to go defend a lowly yet strategic position if they don't know why.

I think the original poster was a little lucky that the enemy commander was so pants. Often a solid static defense in this game is overcome by the accurate and well timed application of artillery. (Not say you would not have won anyway)...

But if one team has a sucky (or even no) commander they are at a definate disadvantage.

This does lead to another thought. I can't believe the number of time I team I have been on has thrown a round away. Example, Sharqi and we as the MEC hold the TV station (the US have reclaimed the other flags) and tickets are less then 50 for both sides but we are slightly in the lead despite the enemy have more flags. If we turned a little defensive and let the enemy attack us we would kill them down and win, but the team members seem determined to commit suicidal attempts to reclaim flags (and again points I guess) and thus we loose... I wonder if a good commander could ave done something about that...

Yes the games bleed rate for tickets is stupid, just one of the many problems with it.
