I remember this from Team Fortress Classic. I loved to snipe, but there would be a maximum amount of snipers already playing. That makes me very frustrated, especially if they weren't doing anything. This would make people who get into maps first have first choice of kit, vehicles, and even get to flags. That's extra sucky.
Perhaps kit choice can be a function of rank, or some other mechanism by which the players with the best performance in a given role are given priority.

I don't think people realise just how effective you can be as a medic...
Con:
not much body armour
easy to run out of ammo
Pro:
Gets very effective weapons (no special toys) but the AK, L85A1 and G36E are all effective killing machines + Grenades
Can run relativive fast
Can heal self so you don't have to worry about minor bumps and scrapes from running around the map or near misses.
Can heal/bring back others, big plus because it stops your side losing tickets and you get points and can turn the tide in flag captures and defense. This is huge.
Plus is a you are a medic and you do bite the bullet, there is a chance some kindly soul will grab your kit and bring you back...
