    Memory issues???

    Hi all,

I've been having a problem with BF2 for some time now and I think it's memory related. Whenever I load up a game online, it loads up (sometimes takes a while) and my hd light's flashing away with a lot of caching noise. The map finally loads up but it takes ages for the whole thing to get going, voices/noises stutter, movement is juddering from place to another. This happens everytime I load a map up, it dies down a lot after about 10mins of play but never really perfects itself. My hd light and noise is going crazy whilst all this is happening.
I'm running the game on full whack, 1280x1024 res and everything does run fine after an agonising 20mins+ so I know it's not to do with the video settings:

It's definitely not an issue of hardware:
    AMD Athlon 64 Fx55
    1gb RAM
2x Geforce 7800 GTs (running in SLI)... you get the picture.

Got rid of Mcafee the other week (something I should've done a long time ago) but it's not a issue of virus scan or spyware (checked and have clean pc)

I've heard somewhere that I might have some dodgy memory, if so, is there a program I can use to check it? If you have any other ideas of what might be causing this problem, I'm all ears!

    Thanks for your help.

thats a monster machine you got going bud, all i can say is try upping to 2 gig. Im running 1 gig now and i have the same type of prob as you. Yuoure running all that high res, your system needs more ram to compensate it.

You can test your RAM with a program called Memtest86.

        Nice one guys...

About memory, I've got 1gb in at the mo' (2x 512s). Would it matter if I buy a 1gb stick rather than another 2x 512s? Is there a noticeable difference or will it harm my pc?

if you can afford the time and money, buy 2 x 1GB matched sticks and sell the 512's. The fewer sticks yo have, the better you generally are. Plus, if you can get OCZ matched sticks, theres even less chance of memory incompatibility issues
