Constant lockups with high pitch noise

Ever since I've got BF2, it has randomly locked up. It goes completely black and the sound goes extremely high pitch and just keeps repeating. I have to hard reboot every time since the screen just goes black. There's no specific time it does it, just randomly. Has done it on both BF2 and SF, on all the patches since release, and on multiple gfx drivers. Here are my specs, hope you guys can offer a solution as it is quite frustrating.

MSI Nforce 3 mobo
Athlon 64 3000+
ATI 9800 Pro
Audigy 2
1 gig PC3200 ram
SATA HD

Sometimes mine freezes with a noise. I updated my drivers and it fixed it.

I've tried 6 different drivers for my card and it still locks up. Beginning to think it is the patch and not me.

I was using the Omega 5.10 cats and I just upgraded to the Catalyst 5.11 drivers, along with updated my Nforce 3 drivers...just played a game and after 30 minutes, did the exact same thing...black screen, monitor goes to stand by and light flashes, have to hard reboot. *sigh* :cry:

Hey

Almost same problem here. BF2 Runs more or less stable. SF crashes always, playing, loading and unexpected moments.

My PC used to run this game smooth but ever since the last patch and SF expansion i cant play this game.
Sorry ...back to CS Source !

Are you overclocked any? If so, bump up your vcore a little.

The video card isn't his problem, the audigy 2 is the problem.

Set your hardware acceleration for the card to basic acceleration and curse creative labs.

I agree with xRandoMx.....it's your sound card. I had the same problem. See if this helps.
