Problem With Startup

Hello, I've got this problem starting BF2. When I click the icon it'll either...
1) Go to a blackscreen for a second, then go back to desktop. (30% chance of happening)
2) Go to a blackscreen and stay there until I Ctrl. Alt. Delete. (40% chance)
3) It will work fine. (30% chance)
I've had this problem since I bought the game, but ever since I patched it. There has been less and less occurances in which the game actually starts.
I have an Intel 4 at 3.2 ghz, a Radeon X800 with the newest drivers, the DVD version of BF2, and 2 gigs of ram. Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it? Does this happen to everyone?

I also have problems with starting the game. Took me forever just to install. Now when I try to load either single player or multi it just freezes up. I've uninstalled/clean installed, updated all drivers. Defragged the works. Maybe someone will find the answer.

The problem is, i read it somewhere here, that EA is updating the server in this weekend. The problem started here at my place around 14 hours...before that no problem, now it takes ages to login to a server..i think it will be normal after the weekend

Thanks, but I'm not sure if thats it, because I have had this problem for awhile now. Hopefully it does get better after this weekend though.

I also noticed that when I put the disc in and the auto run menu comes up. The "Play Online Now" and "Start BF2" buttons are darkened. Meaning they are not selectable. I thought this was really strange. Does anyone know whats wrong?
