I just helped my brother build his computer. It's an Athlon 64 3500 w/ 2x 512 MB Corsair PC3200 RAM, Connect32 Radeon X800, Chaintech VNF4-Ultra motherboard. Anyways, after spending the night installing the software and updating the drivers (using Omega drivers for video card), I installed BF2 today, downloaded the latest patch and loaded up the game. At first, I maxed out all of the graphic settings and set the resolution to 1024 x 768. After playing a single player map for a couple minutes the game completely locked up and I couldn't quit out of it or get to desktop or anything, so I hit the reset button and tried again. I lowered the graphic settings but it still locked up. So I tried doing some optimizations and tried again. This time it froze while optimizing the graphics during load. So that's 3 crashes in a row. On my fourth try, I managed to play a couple maps with no problems. Then I tried loading a multiplayer game and it froze during loading. So now I'm wondering if it's the game or if it's the computer. I never had a problem running BF2 on my computer. I may have froze once or twice out of 200 hours of play.
I installed Far Cry and played that a little bit to see if I had any problems and it seemed to run fine. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix it? I'd at least like to know that it's the game and not the computer.
